Eco mode questions?

I’ve had the car for a year and use sport mode so much I don’t know much about the eco option. So when I start the car my first move is to hit the button on the command unit that says eco and then I click from e to s on the other option below my center console, And my dash will no longer have the yellow eco and will go from a green e to a red s and I’m ready to go. But I think I need a new battery soon and when I start the car the option on the command unit isn’t on. And it doesn’t read eco in yellow on speedometer but still obviously remained in the green e mode. My question is why is there 2 eco buttons? So I can drive in an eco-sport or eco-manual if I wanted ? And if that light isn’t on when I start the car like it normally is, does that usually mean a I sign of needing a new battery?
thanks guys

There are 2 eco buttons because they are in charge of 2 different things. The one under the radio command is responsible for the start/stop function - when you come to a stop, the car will shut down the engine on certain occasions to save gas. I found out that you do need a battery that holds charge for that system to work.

The 2nd eco mode, the one by the knob you use for command unit, by the center arm rest, is for driving mode selection - it will keep the car in a more gas friendly mode, upshifting faster, not revving the engine as high, and maybe some other things. The systems are not dependent of each other. This one has nothing to do with a car battery, it's more for driving style only.

Basically you can have the driving style in sport, as u usually do, with the eco for the "start/stop" function active. It will not impact your driving style at all, just be ready for a small delay before flooring if the car is off at a stop light or so

Also on a side note - a bad battery will impact more systems on your car than you think. If the battery is at 5-6years - you're safe replacing it. Keep in mind the car might have 2 batteries - 1 in the trunk

Regards

Awesome explanation! And yeah my parking sensors sometimes work and sometimes don’t and the eco start stop function has been going off and on sometimes when i start the car, I’m in Florida I assume its time to change battery. Florida is hard on them.

Living in Florida might have a bigger impact on the start/stop function because of another reason - the car runs a checklist before shutting down the engine when coming to a stop. Is the AC runing, is heating/ventilating seats on, is radio on, etc - it checks if the battery can maintain the systems running with the engine off and no power from alternator. In my experience, when the electric system is loaded, my vehicle will rarely turn off the engine at a stop, and even if it did - was for short amount of period, then it will turn it back on.

If you are really interested about your battery condition, you're better checking with a car shop / car parts store. Many of them will verify for free if the battery holds charge / load. But, as i said, if your battery is at the 5-6 year mark, better change it and be safe.
