Horrible Smell After Hard Acceleration

Hello,

I have a 2013 CLS550 with the 4.7l biturbo. Almost every time I accelerate above 3k rpm or go above 100mph, there’s a horrible smell. If I go wot for a little bit more, it’s so bad that I cannot breathe and have to roll down the windows.

The car has 45k miles and has not been abused. Its done this for a few years. Anyone know what the problem might be?

Thank you for any help.

Clean your AC/Heater system?
Amazon Amazon

Have you replaced the climate filters? They make ones with carbon in them to help eliminate smells.

Hmm interesting. I don’t know how that would be related though. It smells bad even when the air is off. The cabin filters are clean. I’m thinking it might be bad catalytic converters?

I'm going to keep an eye on this thread because I may have a similar issue, just not as extreme as yours. On mine it doesn't do it consistently, but every now and again when I stomp on it, I get a bit of rotten egg smell in the cabin -- not enough that makes me have to roll down the windows though. This started after I had the resonators deleted along with a Eurocharge tune, so I thought maybe it's related to a bad weld job where fumes from the exhaust may be escaping from right under where I'm sitting, but it hasn't been bad enough to prompt me to investigate in more detail yet.
