Shouldn't be any problem. Only thing to keep in mind is it for AWD you have to make sure the front height matches the rear ones. but for a regular RWD 5% increase in tire height won't do anything bad.

Correction of my post - 5% increase from the tire width. Not a 5% total increase.

For people confused - the 285 stands for 285 mm width, 35 stands for 35% of the width. so the total height will go up 2-3mm, if that. it's critical to ensure same height front and rear for AWD cars, as some will disable the function or will throw an error on your dash. There are plenty of sites that will help you do the math if you want to upsize the tires.

Which in the real world isn't accurate as tyre manufacturers don't keep to the width and aspect ratio stated on the sidewall....

If that's the case then the only way you'll actually see the difference is by putting the tire on the wheel and trying it on, lol...

I assumed tire manufacturers do match the size indicated. I could understand if a lower brand wouldn't do that, but the top ones should match... Is that info verified or you're talking about own experience?

All started with upsizing diffences in ride height with a car on coilovers , suddenly gained good clearance .

What's the overall diameter difference of 205 55 16 and 235 45 17 ?

Sorry, didn't have access to my laptop earlier.

So according to tire calculator site, the difference in overall diameter is +0.4 inch / 11mm, or 1.6%. Also the R17 tire is wider by 1.2 inch or 30mm, or 14.8%.
So even if the 45% seems to be less than 55% on the first tire size, since the total width is greater and the wheel is 1 inch bigger, the overall diameter is still bigger.

For tire sizes indicated but both R16, the overall size is -0.6 inch total diameter between 205/55 R16 vs 235/45 R16

Regards
