2015 Mercedes CLS 400 4matic
Buying a 2015 CLS400 4Matic today, Extended Warranty or NO???

Hi guys. I'm buying a 2015 Mercedes CLS 400 4matic today. It is fully loaded including AMG steering wheel and Dynamic massaging seats. Only has 47k miles and 2 owners, no accidents. I'm getting it through carmax so have a 30 day 1000 miles warranty. It seems to be in great shape with fairly new tires and brake pads.

Opinions??? Should I go with an extended warranty of not? Not sure if I'm buying piece of mind or throwing money away. I'm pretty sure I won't have to worry about the main engine components or transmission for the next 3 years. I only drive about 8-9k miles a year but in a lot of traffic. Carmax has offered me a 3 year 30k miles warranty for $2800 with a $50 deductible. Endurance, who seems to have one of the better reputations wants $3700 but cover a few more things like tire warranties and lost key fobs as well as some minor parts.

Should I get the warranty for $3-4k or roll the dice???

Anyone have experience with either of these plans, or know of commons problems and or costs to repair them. Most sites seem to have a lack of common problems for the CLS400 which I guess I should take as a good thing.

Thanks.

Let me get you a quote and example contract, for a Complete Manufactures Extension by Freedom Warranty, you can take your vehicle to any Mercedes Benz dealer or licensed independent shop for repairs. I would not recommend Endurance, Fidelity is the only company I'd recommend besides Freedom Warranty. Text or call me at (602) 909-9216 or send me an email at tgibson@highline-autos.com

Ask 10 people and you will get 12 opinions.

No on extended warranty or CPO “coverage”. They don’t pay out claims in excess of premia. No insurance policy does, over the long run.

What are your underwriting profits and commissions on new policies?

Don't get it. I got a 4 year + 80,000 KM (50,000 mile) warranty from my odometer at the date of purchase and have yet to use it. It cost me $3400. My car had about 21k miles at the time I purchased, and currently has 39K miles. These engines are pretty much bulletproof. The only thing you have to worry about is one of the sensors going bad. I'm not sure if your car is equipped with what we call in Canada the Intelligent Drive Package, I think in the US it's called Driver's assistance package, but with this package, there are additional sensors located in the front star, and rear diffuser area on each side for example. Replacing these would be in the few hundred dollar category. Therefore, there's no point in the warranty and for the CLS400, there isn't many problems that people have posted online about these sensors going bad.

If you don't have a service history of the vehicle or if you do, and it hasn't had a transmission service done, I would recommend you do that off the bat if you plan on keeping this car for a few years. With your mileage + the vehicle being 6 years old, if it hasn't been done, then now is the perfect time to do it. The only thing my warranty will be doing for me is adding value to the vehicle if I do plan on selling it at the start of next year since it's transferable.
