2018 CLS550 - Remote start/leaving car run

Is it true that remote start cannot be installed if it wasn't done during production?

And is there any way to lock the car and leave it running? The key fob doesn't work to lock the doors if the car is on.

This seems like such an obvious problem, am I missing something?

Thanks!

Never been able to lock car with car running because of preventing locking the keys in. Pains me that all mopars after 2011 have a fantastic remote start system and even if you are lucky to have it on a Benz, it has to be done through an app.

Anyways maybe mid city engineering has remote start for our cars.

Remote start is possible to be installed by aftermarket means I think. Like the post above mentioned.

As for locking the car while leaving it running, I believe you could try using the physical key and twisting it to the locked position (by inserting the key in the appropriate spot near the door handle) after closing the doors. Rotating counter clockwise should unlock door and rotate once clockwise should lock driver side door then again it should lock all doors. (I might have gotten the direction flipped though)

Yeah, it's insane to me. I didn't even think about it... being a 2018. Yikes. I also read that installing one aftermarket would void the warranty too (?)...

And the key is so difficult to get to that I'd be looking at buying a whole separate key just to go start the car if I want to leave it run

Typo before, meant mopars* like our Jeep.

Here's the link, I've heard good reviews but haven't researched much:

Long live Mercedes for that... I've researched heavily into this, and the cheapest option I found, parts + labor was about $800-900... That's a basic remote start, range 50ft or so. They have over the phone remote start, which obviously is more expensive. Was not happy about that, considering I installed myself on my infiniti for $100.

Regards

How come? Just want to make sure but are we talking about the same key (we are both talking about the one that unlocks the glove box right)?

I was holding out a little hope that this might not be the case, as the other posts I saw were many years old. Ooph

The key I have has a little physical key that has to be separated from the fob itself

I see so we are indeed talking about the same thing, is the latch not working properly, that is why it is hard to get to the key as you described in your previous post?

Hey everyone --
We cover this vehicle with our aftermarket remote starter coverage.
THIS is the product you'd need.
Due to the security platform that your vehicle is built on, it requires an extra vehicle key fob for the installation.
Loads and loads of satisfied customers... And no supply chain issues here this holiday season. In stock and ready to ship!

I only accessed it once before but that was for replacing the battery so I was mixing the hassle up!
It's still a little tedious to access and also detaches completely from the fob instead of being spring-loaded which makes it harder to use, but that's neither here nor there It's the best option I got, so thank you!

Ouch. $699 + $750~ for another key + the installation fee through a professional.
But anyways. I got curious so I looked it up, remote start has came with Honda Accords since 2013. Lol. I wonder why it's even optional for a 2018 Mercedes.. I'm surprised it coming with four wheels isn't an option

That's premium class for you. We think differently from the people that can easily walk in and drive off with a $100k car from the dealer. For people like that an extra $10 or so a month for remote start and various features that come with it (it does cover some interesting stuff) it's nothing.

The only downside for us is that they don't even offer remote start for models 2015 and earlier, it's only 2016 and up option.
