What is this

After taking the plastics off of a 2012 cls 550 I stumbled upon this. Originally I thought it was oil leaking but it's actually hard almost like somebody use some type of insta seal? I just purchased car and had a PPI done and all they came up with was front crank seal was leaking oil. They're a reputable shop but I feel as if they didn't even inspect it properly or I should have been alerted to this. Upon researching everyone's saying how front crank seal normally doesn't have any issues or is that incorrect? Any help on what I should do with the pictures would be appreciated.

Looks like steering gear electric steering motor (A91m1). MB EPC does not show this part separately only steering gear if replacement needed try searching part # found on part installed.

Thanks
SO past couple days my car has been running behind. It popped a check engine today and this popped up 2783-00 torque converter temperature too high. Could it be from that or is it my torque converter?

This place is a joke.
That is normal. It's wax sealant applied to keep water out of the electric steering components. It's added at the factory however older cars had a recall to apply it at the dealership.

Ok thanks. Feel a little better. So torque converter is total separate issue? Any tips on where to start?

Has the trans fluid and filter ever been changed? How many miles on the car?

Car has roughly 60,000 now. I do not believe trans fluid has ever been done. It said my b service was due in a month so I went ahead and did my oil/oil filter/ air filter. Need to finish with brakes and cabin filter. Should I do the trans fluid and seal?

So got a PPI done and they told me I had a slight leak at front crank seal.I don't see it myself but I'll take there word on it I told him of a very faint vibration in steering wheel and he said the front motor mounts are aging out. I am getting a leak as pictured but seems like a hose if I had to guess. No driveway puddles. I changed the oil and air filters and car was running/shifting strong . After few days I noticed it was lagging when shifting. Then when I was going down road car started to vibrate not at wheel but under me and in my seat. Only happened when sitting at light. Thought it was a flex plate but I don't know. Actual shifting and power is smooth. Finally check engine light came on stating torque converter was overheating. Really need to resolve this it's preventing me from getting my little girl. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Front crank seals and worn engine mounts are a common problem on these. I've never seen that fault code for the torque converter. If it were mine, I'd change the trans fluid and filter first to see if that fixed anything, plus it's due by time. That also presents the opportunity to inspect the trans pan for abnormal debris such as metal shavings indicating a more serious problem. Use only MB trans fluid, none of that BG or other aftermarket crap.

That stuff from FB euro is no good? Will Mercedes-Benz sell to me direct so I don't have to wait for shipping?

Yes you can go to any MB dealer and get what you need from the parts counter. Beware the fluid can be around $40 per liter or more. You'll need 6 liters for the service which does not include draining the torque converter which is another 2-3. Some years have a drain plug on the converter, some don't. Fluid id filled from the bottom, there is no dipstick. Search here for instructions and make sure it's something you can tackle yourself, there are some important steps to follow, if not, pay a shop to do it. The Pentosin ATF is good, and will save you a lot of money over the dealer. Make sure it's the correct fluid and on MB's approved list. https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/beam.en.html

There's nothing else to do at the moment. The late 722.9 transmission is very reliable when serviced every 40k miles (MB has extended that to 60k on some models)

So I did a complete flush of trans and torque converter. After completion, and a new aux battery I'm no longer throwing any codes. Car still seems like it's lacking power. what's the procedure to readapt transmission. When I get on it I hear a slight whining noise is that pump or improper amount of fluid. On icarsoft v3 scanner everything seems to check out. On my Carfax it showed plugs where changed 9,000 miles ago but coils are still original (60k+ mileage)

I personally would not worry about coils - they can last a long time. If one fails, it will throw a code - then replace it.
