CLS400 - Interior engine noise

I'm currently looking at purchasing a C218 CLS400 - had a short test drive of one today and the engine seemed oddly noisy for a stock car - as in, I could hear much more of the engine than I expected inside the car.

Granted this was going up a hill and I wasn't paying too much attention to the rpms (I definitely wasn't flooring it though) but is this normal or something of concern? I don't have much experience with non AMG Mercs and was quite surprised by the volume of the engine - thought it would be better isolated.

Keep in mind the CLS is considered a sporty car by Mercedes. I have a CLS 550 And the V8 is quite loud. Personally I like it.

Just ran across this post. I purchased a 2015 CLS400 last month. When test driving it and another 2015 a while back, I was surprised at the sound...almost Subaru boxer motor sound. First one I thought it had engine issues. I took the one I bought to a MB dealer and asked the porter that checks in the cars (figured he drives a ton of em) if the noise was normal he said it was. He explained (if I remember correctly) that there was something that allowed engine noise to enter the cabin, rather than artificial noise like a speaker. Ended up with the car, all is good and my independant never mentioned anything out of the ordinary.
