CLS550 vs XFR- real world performance

I own a C219 CLS currently, and may get a C218 in the near future. I have also owned a 2010 XF Supercharged 5.0 liter V8. When I look at say a 2013 CLS550 vs a Jag XFR, I can't believe there is so little difference in performance, considering an XFR is rated at 510hp, and the CLS at 402. 0-60 times show the CLS may even be a bit quicker than the XFR. Is this correct?

Seems to be. I know mine went 12.82 at 109 stock. So first of all, they're underrated, most people agree they're more like 435hp stock. Second of all, with the small turbos they make that power from 4000rpm-6000rpm so with the 7 speed they're almost always at peak power, and third, the 5.0L supercharged Jag is listed at 4481lb, about 300lb heavier than the Benz. That's how "402hp" keeps up with 510hp.

Thank you. That settles it for me, looks like I am getting a 2nd CLS550. Since my 09 CLS550 has low mileage, we are keeping it. In my almost 5 years w the XF Supercharged I find Mercedes to be more reliable overall. Given the performance of the turbo V8 CLS550, no reason for me to even consider another XF.

Ehhhh...might want to research that "reliable" part. Mine was fine for 6 months, then in the space of another 6 months it needed all the high mile problems addressed....suspension compressor, turbo to coolant lines (2k!), both batteries, and pullies and tensioners. About 5k total, but since I got it at 140k for cheap, I figured it would need some fixing. I still have to do cam sensor pigtails (oil can get into ECU through them) and I think I'm safe on the cylinder scoring issue at this point. Doesn't smoke or burn much oil. Timing chain (2-4k repair) could still go out. So IF you do buy a CLS, save some coin for future repairs. I have 160k on mine now and going strong, it's tuned and runs 0-60 in 4.1 and the quarter in 12.50 at 112. Also got a mileage bump from 27 up to 30mpg freeway. Other than being down a few weeks for some very expensive repairs it's been one of my favorite cars.

Lol, after only owning the XF for 4 months it had abrupt transmission failure. The clutch plates disintegrated. I won't finance any of my vehicles, so all money set aside for maintenance.

Ouch, yeah that one would hurt. Part of the reason I got the CLS550 is that the engines and transmissions are very stout. All-out they'll make 550rwhp and run low 11s at 125-ish on stock turbos with an aggressive E50 tune, intakes, and downpipes.
