Air Suspension sinks on one side

Hello folks,

My 2014 CLS550 has stareted leaning to the right hand side with he front right wheel sinking first. I have checked the distribution valve and the front right airstrut connectors for leaks by spraying soapy water but didnt see anybubbles. I scanned he car and got C156984, C155664 and C157200. I had hit the right front wheel in a pothole a few months ago and had bent the wheel back then. The wheel was repaired and this sinking issue did not start back then. The car has 78000 miles.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Hey Suley,

I had a similar issue with mine, and it ended up (at first) being a really slight tear in the bag. It finally came open after a cold snap, and could be what made yours show symptoms ( if it just got cold or possibly from the pothole). If you can (via xentry or any 2 way obd reader), try to fill up the front right and listen for air hissing out. It could be that the strut is just wearing out and the pothole just didn't help. Is it sinking when you drive it aswell, or does it get back up when you start it?

Thank for the reply... I just discovered air leaking from the front right strut, an unmistakable hiss and saw the car getting lower. Really weird since the dealership had replaced the front struts in 2019 at around 50K miles. The car is clocking 78K right now... As for replacements, any recommendation as I am seeing quite a few brands out there besides Mercedes originals... Also do i change both fronts or one would be fine?

TIA

I have an arnott on my front right strut, been there for over a year and keeping strong. It was on rock auto for $650ish, beats the dealer price by a long shot. I'd recommend doing both if you have the money, I just did the one since my driver's side had already been replaced and I'm a broke student. If you've been driving on it like that for a while keep an eye for the driver's side rear to go out soon, they can get stretched hard when it goes flat for a while on the front.

Get new struts from FCPEuro. They offer a lifetime warranty on all parts they sell.
I'd also swap them as a pair. ( Keep the one that is OK as a spare for emergency only)

Agreed, fronts go at similar time intervals if not at exactly the same time, it may be smart to swap both. I had about less than 30 days before my right and left went out seperatly.
