IPOD vs DVD help

I should be picking up my car this weekend and have been contemplating pre-ordering the IPOD kit w/ the car so it will be covered for the full four years. After thinking about it, I can put so many tunes on a DVD, It may not be worth the cost of an IPOD setup. What do you think??

I am currently playing my mp3s using the DVD disc on the single player. I'm also using the AUX for my ipod though I can't control it using the steering wheels buttons. Thats the advantage of the DVD disc, full control on command and steering. You can also see the name of the singer and song on the NAv screen and front display. Since DVD can hold about 900 songs, I recommend to make folders for each artist or playlist so you don't spend the full hour finding your songs. These folders can be seen and opened on nav screen.

How did you connect the ipod to the AUX? Is there an input in the glove box?

i like that dvd idea, too bad i dont have the option.... kahuna do what hcden said...basically from itunes burn it onto a dvd (if you have a dvd writer) and keep the ipod as a backup if you need to use the navi.....if you have the aux input all you need is a mini to mini wire located at any radio shack (got mine for 2.99 best investment of all time)

Cool....didn't know about these.

Are they available yet through the dealer or will it be sometime before we can purchase them and have them installed.

Using DVD slot is a good idea !
I'm running CD rom (700M), consists of 18~22 songs/pcs
Pickup favorite songs & transfer them to MP3 format on desktop.
So a cd changer hold ~20*6 "favorite songs".

BTW I bought a FM transmitter, plugged in iPod mini & played in house for testing. (it's designed for car)
Not many free FM frequency here, the stereo quality is poor.

Noooooooooooooo....
The DVD I used in the dealer demo will not play in my new car. I tried several other disks and all will not play.
A guy in my office asked if the dealer car had the navigation option and yes it did. Would that make any differance??

To my practice the DVD slot in CLS can play DVD,CD or MP3s in CD rom. But it can't play VCD.
The CD changer play only CD, MP3s.

As for the iPod, before the factory integration kits available
We can play it thru
(1)FM transmitter ......quality dependent
(2)TV tuner or Aux port, though they're not integrated.
(3)CD changer port, some audio tuner in the states is testing it, expect that to be an integrated one.

I talked to MB dealership today regarding the IPod option. Parts guy told me that it was being made for all 2006 MB vehicles, but is currently only available for the ML series. He told me that he should have some in for the CLS by the end of the this month with a price tag of around $300. We will see.

I bought the FM transmitter and the quality is not that good as commented by Shine 1023. Is there anything that can improve the sound/signal. I do not have the nav system so I do not think that I have the aux outlet.

I have the same type of transmitter and I agree with you, the sound is not very good and it tends to pickup background noise. That is why I was so interested in this device that creates, in essence, a hardwire connection to the vehicles audio system. I have used more than three different FM/Cigarette Lighter transmitters and they are all of very poor quality.

Spoke w/ my service rep this morning about not being able to play mp3's recorded on dvd media. He told me it will only work if your unit is equiped w/ the navigation option.

"and that's all I have to say about that"
