I'm taking delivery of an '07 CLS next week which didn't come with the iPod set-up. Dealer is quoting $730 installed ($300+ labor).

1) Ridiculous price given the difference vs. factory installed?

2) Is it worth it (I've read a few mixed reviews on quality, user friendliness)?

So i purchased the iPOD kit from Oakland Mercedes, charged me bout $399, the dealership quoted me $1k minimum. I took it to my friends at Audiomobile in Oakland, and they knocked it out in 2.5 hours with no diagram, which was told to me by the parts manager @ Oakland Benz that they do not have those available to the public. The kit was "easy" to install, just took some thought and courage to cut two wires connecting the iPOD kit to the factory amp. Makes life better, no cd's, no cd changer, and 10,000 song at the touch of my thumbs..... So happy with my kit and install, well worth the time and trouble!!!

 

I would get it done for that price. Im my opinion the iPod kit is not well done. When I got my CLS 2 months I posted my comments immediately. Mercedes has compatibly issues which don’t allow the iPod to work with the main screen. After my experience I would still purchase but I would have different expectations. Just my .02
