Question Squeak from vents ...

Hey guys,

Had a quick question... I seem to hear a squeaking noise (sounds like churping) coming from my vents when i either turn the ac on or the heater... Would anyone have any suggestions? My car is a 06 CLS 500 designo with about 65k miles.

Thanks in advance...

ak.

Most likely it is the bearing/bushing of the AC/heater fan that blows air into the passenger compartment. It's located on the passenger side of the dash. It can be viewed from inside the engine compartment by removing the plastic cover behind the windshield washer tank filler flap and the plastic cabin air filter holder. I'd guess that the fan can only be replaced by removing the dash, but I'm not sure about this. (That's how it is on my 7-series BMW.)

Occasionally, I have the same noise. You can temporarily eliminate the noise by changing the speed of the fan manually. If it becomes constant and excessive, I'd expect a replacement under warranty.

Thanks

Daymn, I was hoping a tweety bird was stuck in there... I guess eventually the noise will get worse (I assume) then will take it to the dealership, I have an extended warranty that they give me a hard time everytime i take my benzito in to the dealership.

thanks

CORRECTION & UPDATE

IN FACT: Motor can be replaced by removing the panel behind the glove box. Original part number is 2308200214 (Behr, $312), but part number 2118300908 also works and is available from Behr for around $200 or from TYC for around $155. Figure an hour of labor.

Also had this problem. Fixed it by removing the blower motor from the passenger footwell (very simple procedure). I shook out the carbon deposits, blew out any stubborn dirt with an airgun, and then lubricated the visible moving bits with a silicone lubricant. Replaced it, and the squeak is gone.

Do a search on the forum for the blower motor removal steps :-)

Not entirely correct. You do not have to remove the glovebox.

The blower motor is removed by:

Super easy to do. Had mine out, cleaned and fitted back in the car in about an hour.
