Best way to lower your CLS550???

Just what the title say.

I recently purchased used CLS550 and wanting to lower the car about 1-2 inches. I did a search on the forum and it looks like there are several different way that people lower there CLS and price really varies.

What is the best way lower your CLS? Please post how your car was lowered and how much it cost.

Also, is there a place in So Cal (LA area) that could lower the CLS with quality work?

Pics will be great too!!!

Thanks in advace.

Seems like I am going to answer my own question.

I personal lowered my car with Links from Ghost Motorsports in LA for $350. $160 for links and $180 for installation.

I thought about installing ELM but few factor made me go with Links. First off, like any electronic device, it could fail, second you have to tamper with wires Which could void your warranty. Last but not least is the cost. ELM does have it's pros though. With ELM, You can adjust the height of your car with press of a button from inside of your car and I also read in the forum somewhere that ride quality quality is better. Pros about Links are, they are very cost effective and you can put it back to stock any time incase you have to go to MB dealer to do a warranty work on your suspension. You can adjust the height with links also but it's more involved than just pressing a button which is a con.

For me, it's been great. No issues so far and I think reside quality is very good but On the other hand, I never drove CLS with ELM.

With links you suspension will go faster.........too much pressure on the Bags....doesent let it raise...when it senses a dip the Bags will rub with each other n eventually the airmatic will fail...with links there is more stress on the suspension.......Hence it is the cheaper way for lowering....u could have jus done it with washers if u wanted cost effective.....same install..IMO.

Find someone with a Star and have them lower it. It should be under $100

Newbie question here - are you saying that you can lower the car entirely through software? How far can it be lowered?

Yes, it changes the settings. The whole car will be lower, like the "sport 2" setting (stock) will look like the "comfort" setting after you are lowered with the star. Here is my car on "sport 2" after being lowered... It's an iPhone pic so its not the best.

Before I installed links, I was thinking of lowering my car with Star but no luck finding a dealer that was willing to do it. I found a shop that had Star and they wanted $400.

2007 CLS
If the car is lowered with either links, washers, STAR, or ELM, the suspension does not care what it lowered it with a special exception to the ELM system.

Let's take four cars lowered the same amount at static state with each of the system mentioned above. The suspension system will wear and tear, and react much as equally as each other. This is simple suspension kinematics. All methods affect the spring/airbag system to net the final ride height.

The exception I made for the ELM is due to it's ability to change the ride height dynamically at certain speeds. CLS lowers itself at highway speeds. The ELM can prevent this lowering from occurring. Other methods will lower as the vehicle is programmed to. Depending how much it was lowered to start with, it might go TOO low at highway speeds. If this new lowered ride height is close to it's bump stops, you WILL get rougher ride vs. the ELM. Maybe the STAR method might have such programming safeguards built in to prevent such occurrence (since STAR is not being fooled with washers or links).

How much was your car lowered? And would you change it if you could?
From the picture above, the drop looks nice!

It was lowered as much as the star would allow. There is a range that each side on the front and the rear has to be within on the star settings. So we got it as low as we could. I wish I could get it a little lower front and rear (more in the rear) and I don't want to add washers to it. If I had money to blow I would buy this http://www.loweringmodule.com/index....ingmodule.html

check this thread out
https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...peak-peak.html
I heard they are coming out with a new one called the m2 as mentioned on the third page of that thread.

All and all I spent $75 and it got me close to exactly what I wanted
