Command screen problem

Does anyone know why the CD icon on the command screen would be greyed out? CD changer works but the single CD option is not accessible.

Even with a CD inserted the cd icon on the command screen stays greyed out.

It means that it can not initialize the drive. Typical of a failed drive.
