Arrow Thinking of buying this 2007 CLS550 - Need Input!

Hey Guys -

I need some feedback on a car I just looked at.

http://www.autohauswest.com/detail-2...d-9240331.html

Here are the specs:

Dealer will take $35K, car is on consignment.
1 owner
2007 CLS550, Black on Black, 43K miles.
21" Black Wheels - no TPMS
Painted Tails - No clear coat
Painted Grill - Needs to be repainted chipped
Deleted resonator
Painted side markers
No accidents on carfax
Fenders have been flared, but not a clean job.
Chipped paint on the rear bumper.

Dealer said they will fix all the paint issues.

P1 Package
KeylessGo
AMG Sport Package
No warranty
Maybe P2-Package....not sure.

I drove the car, it felt good, but not fantastic. The 21" wheels (not a big fan of them) made the car feel much more ridged than I am sure it is supposed to be. I heard a few creeks here and there (espechally on the drivers side door), but I expect that to be normal, what do you guys think?

I have mostly owned new cars, so I am not sure about reliability or cost of fixing this car. Anything I should be aware of? Anything I should ask the dealer?

Having owned the car, would you guys go my route and spend 30K -35K on a used CLS?

Thanks for the help community!

hmmm. i just bought a 2008 with 36k miles for $36k. the seller had bought it as a certified pre-owned so it still has warranty from benz. i've seen other deals similar to mine so this one doesn't look so stellar... if you're looking for a stock benz.

if you don't like the aftermarket wheels and the stiff suspension from lowered ride, then i'd keep looking, or i'd negotiate the price down as the aftermarket stuff actually detracts from the resale value most of the time.

but if you like the custom look, the blacked out details, the wheels, and the lower stance, then you may be saving yourself some change. to give an idea, i'll be spending ~$500 to have it lowered and i'll be spending ~$3500 on aftermarket wheels.

but do it only if it's set up the way you like it. if you don't care for the customizations and the harshness of the lowered stance, then keep looking as they would make it harder for you to resell in the future as well.

oh, two other quick points...

1) i think the car looks hot hot hot. it's nicely done and looks mean. it catches attention without being too flashy. ooh. very nice.

2) 21's weren't meant to fit, without some customizations. it looks like the previous owner must have flared the fenders. he also probably had to cut some of the plastic in the inner wheel well and possibly shaving down a bolt in the front upper control arm. the 21's give little wiggle room so they require perfect fitment. try loading up the heftiest patrons from the local krispy kreme and go on a test drive. go over a few speed bumps and make a few sharp u-turns to test for excessive rubbing and clearance issues.

good luck with the hunt.

2016 E550 Cab & 2011 GL 550 & 09 VROD Muscle & 06 Seadoo Speedster LE .......
car looks mint get warranty a full service history n Car Proof/fax....21 s r perfect for the CLS ride quality on 20s or 21s same....there r a few members on here with 22 s swell... if they r custom made wheels you don't have to modify anything....if they r cheap wheels then u have to do the randogg thing....personally 21 s look the best on a CLS....with a kit n lowering....

no way in hell can u fit 4 people in a CLS its practically a 2 seater....+baby...im 6,4 n my wife is 5,8 n with r seating position no room in the back...unless u r 5,4 n under n very slim..

CLS550 AMG Pkg.
IMO that is a bit too much for an 07, even if it does have a few extras (wheels, AMG Package etc.)...I would make an offer at $29k. Although the mileage is low, the wholesale value of a 2007 (with representative miles for its age) is between $24-27.5k depending on condition (stated in Canadian dollars).

Does the dealer have the factory wheels? You said the fenders were "flared", what do you mean? Rolled?

Defintely ask the dealer about the 60km (37.5mile) transmission service (i.e. flush, software update etc.).

CLS55
With that budget and the list of cars u owned in your sig, u shouldn't even consider something less than an AMG model. Look in to a CLS55 AMG and add some power to it. You get the AMG looks, the powerful motor and they are pretty reliable. U won't regret going with a CLS55.
