Mercedes Techs - Chime in!
A few weeks ago, I noticed that my rear left air spring was shot on my CLS550. I got a proper diagnosis done to ensure no leaks and it did indeed turn out to be just the air spring. So I bought a remanufactured oem air spring and got it installed. The car drove perfectly fine for about an hour. Then all of a sudden, I start hearing the same clunking sound when going over bumps.
I then took it back to the mechanic and it was clear that my air spring had burst AGAIN. I assumed it was because of the remanufactured quality and the company agreed to buy it back. Fair enough. I then bought a mercedes oem air spring off ebay (came in all the original mercedes packaging) and got that installed. I then had the EXACT same issue. It drove and felt perfect for about 45 mins and then back to the SAME issue! The rear left side went fully back down!
What is going on here?! Does it have anything to do with the lowering links installed all my car? The lowering links are set quite low...is this causing the issue? Is it causing some sort of issue in the new air springs that cause them to burst? Is it only okay to install the lowering links after the air springs have been in tune to stock height? I don't get it!
I can't keep paying techs to keep my car in their shop and install new air springs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
