Benz CLS500 AMG or BMW 750Li?

Hey guys I've been on this forum for quite some time but have never posted really. I've just been reading a lot and the information in these forums is amazing. I wanted to ask the opinions of the owners of the CLS and how good of a car it is. I ask because I'm looking to purchase another vehicle as I was driving a Lexus ES 330 and decided I wanted to try a different vehicle. So now I'm stuck between an '06 CLS 500 AMG with 60K on the dash or a '06 BMW 750 Li with 60K on the dash. I love them both but can't decide which I should pick up. Both are $20K and I live in Upstate NY. And I've never personally driven or been driven in either car. Any thoughts?

CLS 500
The biggest difference is styling. Both have nearly the same 0-60 time, the 750Li being 0.1 seconds slower. Similar fuel economy, the BMW beating the merc by ~1-2MPG. The BMW also has quite a bit more HP and torque. Personally, the 750Li is too big of a car for my taste. Feels like you're driving a boat. Granted, the CLS is still quite big and heavy, but handles and feels like a much smaller and sportier coupe. Ultimately, it depends on your needs and which style you prefer, if you need alot of space in your car and you're not so into the styling or practicality of the CLS, then the 750Li is more for you. I'd say the CLS is a better car, so long as you don't mind the fact that you've only got 4 seats and much, much less room than the 750Li. Plus, you've got the AMG styling pkg which is a huge plus. I wouldn't purchase a W219 w/o the AMG styling pkg.

Your comparing apples to oranges. I had a 750Li and it was a land yacht. I loved it but it should be compared to the S Class, not a CLS. The CLS is more like a 6 series BMW. Only way to find out is drive them both then decide which to pursue.

The CLS will be of a much higher build quality than the 7, in my opinion. There are materials used on every day components in the 7 (window switches etc) which peel and look horrible, and from my experience the BMW engines are just not put together as well as one would expect.

AMGroach is correct; the CLS compares to the 6-er, but having just traded in my 6-series convertible on a CLS I would steer anyone away from the BMW. The 6 cost more when new, but did not age nearly as well as the CLS, and the interior was made up of nice looking, but dreadfully short-lived materials.

I've had several luxury vehicles in the past. Lexus ls400, ls430, sc430, Sl55, cls500 with AMG, S500, 745i, 750LI.ML55 etc....
All of those above, I'm still own my S550 with a hair under 32k miles as family vehicle. My daily driver is 02 Lexus sc430 with 219k miles ( yes 219000). My weekend warrior is ( of course) 06 Cls500 with AMG ( AMG 8/4 piston big brakes) oem body kit, dual exhaust etc... )
IMO, cls500/55/550 were well made. My Cls aged very well for 8 yrs old car. Go with cls500 amg with that low mileage if I were you. Remember, it's not a cheap car to own. Check service record etc before hand is a must. Go New England Patriots Ned
