2008 CLS550 clunking noise / burning smell

2008 CLS550 clunking noise / burning smell
I have a 2008 CLS550 and I started hearing/feeling a clunking sound coming from front end I immediately pulled over and popped the hood (car is off and key was in my hand and the clunking continued I could feel it most when I put my hand on drivers side fender and little white air lines I'm assuming were jumping around like crazy and I could smell an awful burning smell.
My description is not the greatest but hopefully someone can help me out

I've got nothing to add other than good luck. I've subscribed because I'm curious as to what it could be.
I'm assuming the air ride pump is going crazy and burning itself out. Which sounds horrible, but I bet it's cheaper than a shock going out.
Hopefully one of our mecho-geniuses will have a simple answer.
