Helping out my brother and his 08 CLS550. The car has developed a wheel shimmy at 40mph and above at all times. Also there is a popping sound I cant seem to pin down. Ive checked the suspension arms and all seems tight. No busted bushings or bad tie rods. Upper ball joint seems tight although I cant really tell on the lower one.

I did pierce through the boot on the lower ball joint with a needle and filled it with oil. The popping noise seemed to be less now. Am I safe to assume I need lower ball joints?

Regarding the shimmy---have you checked the tires and balance!!

New 19 inch wheels. Balanced and new tires. Although Im not 100% sure if they used a road force balance.

Balance weights fall off, bro. Have them checked again.

Had a similar issue, turned out to be the rear wheels out of allignment. Had a full laser reset and the problem is fixed.
