Rear Door Looks dangerous!
Lawsuits are coming from injuries occuring from that dangerous looking "poke your eye" rear door non-sliding window on that frameless door:

Hey Kev,
That CLS is just bugging the crap out of you, isn't it?
I don't get it either. I'm trying to reserve judgement untill I see one in the flesh. I'd be OK with it if they would just stop calling it a coupe! They haven't made an E class coupe since the CE that I drive and they aren't making a CE500 coupe so I geuss I'll have to wait till I can get a CL to replace my CE.

I bet MB is going to fix that problem before the car goes into production.....(hopefully)....in my opinion it's really a good car...they are going to fix the problem sooner or later....once ppl start poking themselve in the eye, and start filing law suit against MB...haha

OK, I guess I am asking for it but....I like it....
HOWEVER....I dont understand why a car built on the E frame and essentially an E with less room both inside for passengers and in the trunk should cost more. If it were the same price as the E I would love one (if I could afford either one ). I hated the prototype leather, but love the dash in this and the leather is once again....normal.
just my humble opinion.....no death threats please

Hi Kev,
I was at the NY auto show yesterday. The CLS is there, as well as the CL65, SL65, SLR Mclaren, the new SLK350 and the C55-AMG. The show is open untill Sunday and is worth checking out.
Anyway, after seeing the CLS in the flesh (steel) I still don't get it
It is a chopped top E500. for the privilege of less headroom they are estimating a cost of $70,000 and January release (as an '06?)
Whatever????
P.S. Other than MB I think Ford has some hits coming. The GT is awesome. You can see the blower sticking up from the engine bay behind the seats and it looks like you would see it in the rearview mirrorr from the drivers seat. Very cool. The new Mustang looks great as well. The Porshe Carrera GT is there as well. WOW

I debated going to that show. Could not find anyone to go with me. Was it overly crowed during the week? I wanted to see the 2005 Chrysler 300C Hemi Sedan and Dodge Magnum RT Hemi wagon. The Magnum will replace my SUV Truck and my old lady wants a 300C. We were able to test drive the 300C Hemi last weekend locally and that made the 4 hour drive to NYC moot.

How was that 300C Hemi?
The show was not that crowded. I was able to get up to and into all of the cars, including the 300C and the Magnum. The Magnum is cool. The MB parts are evident. The light switch and signal stalk and cruise control stalk are right out of the Eclass.
What was the 300C like to drive?
The show emphasized for me how tough the competition is right now. The Chrysler cars like the 300 and the Magnum, the Acura RL with 270 Hp and nav. for $35K. the Ford Mustang, the new F150. This is a great time to be a car buyer. There is a lot of great "product" out there.
P.S. Give me a buzz next time Kev, I wanted to go last Sunday and couldn't find someone to go.

300C is nice, firm ride, solid tight feel, quiet inside, if you want to hear the Hemi roll down the windows. Quick throttle response. I could not get a good tranny kickdown like I am used too in E55 while at highway speeds. Great seating position. Large car, very roomy inside.

P.S. Having said how many nice vehicles are available and after checking them out all day getting back in my CE for the ride down the turnpike was like "going home".
For $12,000 that I spent on the CE, while cruising the turnpike at 90 MPH (in the rain) in comfort and security with 105,000 miles on the "clock" all of those shiny new cars faded. Their really is no substitiute for the feel of a "good old Benz".

You want to see some dangerous doors, look no further than GM's first-generation front-drive minivans (Lumina APV, Silhouette, Trans Sport). The front doors had an edge that lined right up with your face, and if you weren't paying attention, would whack you good. There was even a liability sticker inside the door jamb warning you to watch your noggin.
