Cannot find transmission dipstick/fill hole on 06 cls500.
I apologize in advance for this noob question. I was all prepared to do my transmission fluid service but cannot for the life of me find where the dipstick goes. Checked everywhere it is supposed to be lifted the hood all the way up, took off the engine covers, looked everywhere near the oil dipstick and see nothing. I have scoured everywhere online, and searched this forum, watched all the videos and I know where it is supposed to be... the only problem is it is not there?? Is this particular year in a different location? I have pictures added but the oil dipstick is clear as day then there is nothing remotely nearby that would take a dipstick.
No dipstick, fluid level is checked using overflow method. Oil pan has overflow pipe clipped onto pan above drain plug. Fluid level must be check @ specified temperature.

Oh for some reason I thought this had the same transmission as the w211.
Guess the only special tool required is a fluid pump and adapter to refill the pan. Can any standard odb reader check trans temp?
Really no one? I know they say it's a sealed transmission but is mine truly sealed? There's nothing on my car. Could anyone with an 06 cls chime in?
Hey Buddy,
I just noticed your thread otherwise I would have chimed in soon. There is definitely no ATF dipstick on our car. In fact, there are a number of videos that show a special tool that requires ATF to be PUMPED back into the drain plug. What a pain!

Yea thanks guys for the videos got it sorted. I just gotta return this unecessary dipstick and cap now lol..
I think it may be easier to change on these trans just because it has somewhat of an overflow feature... too much fluid it spits it out and when it trickles your good to go. Now I just gotta find the time to do this thing.
While I got your attention Lex you will need a ball joint installer to get that ball joint back in you can get one off amazon here

They may also make mercedes specific ones but this should work fine as they all do the same thing. And good luck as this will not be fun.
Hey Buddy, thanks for the tip about the ball joint installer. I managed to get the ball joint back on fine, I just used a c-clamp with a hex key. On the videos they didn't use any special tool- maybe we are talking about different things. I'm not very knowledgeable with suspesion.
In regard to checking transmission oil temperature, you can use MB ICarsoft II, or just use an infrared gun to get temp directly from the pan.
I'm planning to do the service as well, definitely before winter. The website esc tuning has some nice kits:

Yea we are definitely talking about the same part, the item I linked you to is basically a glorified c clamp made for pressing in ball joints. You hook a wrench to it and put some little protective cups on the ball joint ends but glad you got it in cuz that thing is a pia. Also believe the suspension is supposed to be compressed one you are torquing each section of the control arms including the nut on the ball joint... not sure just how crucial this is but all the videos i've seen have included this.
I've actually had all the parts for a while to do the trans service just been too lazy lol.. Got a hand pump that's about the size of a bike pump so it should speed up the process and the little screw in adapter to go to the pan.
Is IcarsoftII needed to check the fluid temp or can any obd2 reader do that? If not I have a infrared temp gun as well but would prefer to use an obd 2. If I gotta buy that icarsoftII I might as well pay my indy to do this job.

MB Icarsoft II is the only tool that I know of that is relatively inexpensive and can check ATF temp. It is a great tool and worth every penny.
