Does this sound normal to you? Radiator Fan
Hi all:
I bought a 2006 CLS 500 after many happy years with a 2001 E320. In the past month or so, when the HVAC condenser fan (aka: radiator fan) comes on, the noise increases exponentially, literally: at rest, with hood open standing over engine, it is at about 76 db. Turn on the AC, and the sound then goes up to 86 db. (I've attached a video with the sound).
The Mercedes guy who works on my difficult MB issues here (our nearest MB dealer is 100 miles away), says that this is normal - he put the computer on it and says that there are no codes coming up.
While I've had good luck with this guy in the past, I'm not sure that this is normal - I've never heard an MB, much less any car have a 10 db increase in noise when you turn on the AC. (Actually, I've driven less noisy race cars!)
The question is, do any of your MB CLS make this much noise when the AC activates?
I'm at the point where I'm about to change out the radiator fan just to make sure...
Thanks!
Tim
