M273 idler sprocket replacement
Anyone affected by the faulty sprocket? I read many posts on the M272 engines which have a bad balance shaft but our M273 engines only have a bad sprocket.
I am wondering exactly what needs to come off to get the timing cover off while leaving the engine in car. I only have 30k miles so thinking of just pulling the timing chain adjuster, replace sprocket and bolt back up.

Ordered a lot of parts and special tools. I will post a list. Started yesterday by removing accessories on front of engine. Oil and coolant draining. Will get at it again on Friday.
Anyone know now how many bolts hold the bottom of timing cover? I understand that they are the front bolts in oil pan? Any chance that I can remove them only to pull the cover and not drop the entire oil pan?

Thanks. Definitely watched that and all the online videos multiple times and I have a couple of questions unanswered on them. Hoping for someone that has done it or a Mercedes Tech. Maybe WIS access too.

I had a separate thread on it. There were a few special tools. The harmonic balancer bolt was tricky. Should pull engine because sealing the pan with the rtv with inches of room is a total pain.
Nothing hard. Just meticulously follow instructions and have a lot of time. I did it over 2-3 months weekend work in garage.
