Why is it required to remove the lower oil pan in order to remove the upper? I see the pickup tube in some pictures and videos but I don’t think you can remove it via the lower hole after removing pan. I must be wrong though.

Once I got under there I could see that a handful of bolts must be inside the pan. I removed the lower and it became pretty obvious.

I’m not sure yet if the pickup tube needs to be removed but it looks pretty easy if I need to.
