CLS500 thoughts?
Just got rid of my 08 C300 w/ 152k on it. Looking for something a little faster/more fun to drive. Saw a CLS500 w/ 76k on it, clean title, all maintenance done at dealer etc. Looked around the forums and saw the 06 has a couple kinks and issues w/ the SBC. Im pretty comfortable with DIY and all but still, how far can I go with DIY? Any aftermarket warranties you'd recommend? On another note, I've also seen an 07 550 with similar miles and records, would it be worth the extra couple grand to just go with the 07?

Had mine (06 model) for three years. bought it with 90k and now have 140k. One air shock and one CPS sensor and it still runs like a champ and brings a smile to my face everyday. If you decide to get it you will be happy. Try to get one with the AMG/SPORT package.

I bought my 2006 cls500 with 62K miles about a year ago. I have put about 8K miles on my car since purchasing. I also previously owned a c-class and wanted something faster.
The cls500 is really fast and fun to drive. I love this car.
Yes, this model is prone to failure in several areas. I DIY repaired my front air shocks, Crankshaft Position Sensor, Crankshaft Pulley, and Upper Suspension Ball Joint.
The SBC appears to frequently fail in this model somewhere around 100K miles; it is not a DIY job and even if it was you'd need to get STAR, reprogram, and buy a new SBC pump which is big bucks. If I had know, I'd absolutely have bought an '07 or newer which does not have the SBC system. Plus the '07 has 80 more horsepower!!
My car seems like it has been broken down all the time. I have managed to repair on my own for not much $$$. I hope the worst of the repairs are over, and these failures were just left over from previous owners. Some days I think this is the greatest car in the world, and other days I feel like I want to sell it and go back to owning a Japanese car. Only time will tell.

Thanks for the replies fellas. Found a '08 550 w/ 98k miles priced around the same as most 500's. Per seller its been "meticulously" maintained and all, only thing I'm a little hesitant on is the mileage. Thoughts?
