Hey all!
I was just wondering how safe it is to drive with the EGR Valve disconnected on my 2006 CLS500. I just bought the car about a week ago and the PO had disconnected the valve after receiving a P0400 error (EGR Valve Malfunction). He said that the engine was running really rough, and since he didn't have the tools/money to fix it, he just disconnected it.
From what I've read, I've seen people saying that it's no big deal driving with a P0400 error, you'll just have reduced fuel economy and less clean emissions (obvi needs to be fixed before smog/registration). But I can't find anyone mentioning if it's alright to disconnect the valve all together. The car seems to drive fine without it, aside from the fact that I seem to get around 10-15mpg city and like 17mpg highway. Is there any risk of damage to the engine or anything else like that driving with the EGR Valve disconnected?
Thanks in advance!
