So i bought cls 500, W219 2004, i constantly heard knocking from the rear shock absorber, and got it inspected by my mechanic and he told me it’s the rear right shock absorber. Yesterday i replaced it by my own, took 30 minutes of work and there isn’t something i can mess up. Even with the new shock absorber i can still hear the knocking and its very unsettling, i decided to check how it looks like on the left side and i can tell that the air strut looks completely diffrent. Could this be the cause? First photo is the rear right and second one is rear left

check your subframe bolts

The right spring lost its protective cover. The shocks looks ok, as far as we can judge from a picture.

Good advice from @kikokiko1976 . The rear subframe is held by 4 bolts. They are known to snap once they get a little bit older.
