C219 Buyer’s Guide?
Hello everyone. I’m interested in these C219 generation Mercedes-Benz CLSs because of their beautiful styling inside and out, plentiful luxury features, and because I think I need a V8 in my life.
However, I don’t know much about these cars beyond their specifications and the features they offer. What kind of issues can I expect to deal with should I buy a used one? How reliable are these cars? Are they easy to work on? For background, I’m coming from a 2010 Volkswagen CC 2.0T (the Alibaba version of this car) with a 6-speed manual, and I previously owned a 2013 Volvo S60 T6 AWD, so I’m not too afraid of owning an old European luxury car, as long as the issues aren’t especially catastrophic.
I heard the M113 is super reliable. Is it true? Also, how is the M273? The 273’s extra 80 horsepower, 4-valve heads, and DOHC make it sound tempting, especially considering the trivial price difference, but I will opt against it if it’s too unreliable is the 113 makes enough power and sounds good enough for me anyway. Is the 7G-Tronic any good as well?
I also understand these cars have air-ride suspension, which I’ve heard mixed reviews of. I don’t mind air suspension if it’s trouble free, although I also wouldn’t mind a conventional suspension conversion if it’s not catastrophically expensive.
