Quarts or Quarts?

Hello,

I've been inside a mind boggle lately with my 2006 CLS 500 (325000KM or 201945 MI). The car is awesome, however, since ownership (around 3-4 months), only thing I had with this thing is problems due to ignorant previous owners. Nonetheless, I've fixed up most of the things on the bad boy, I love the car. After all the fixes I've done to it, out of the blue the car tells me to add 1 liter of oil (1200km or 745 mi after last change), I add the 1 liter, go into the 'secret' menu with 3 clicks on the Reset button prior to ignition, then check my 'accurate' oil level electronically on the dash with the ignition on, the thing shows 5.9-6.3 QUARTS of oil in the engine on completely cold, which according to US quarts is 5.58 l to 5.96 l of oil in the engine. Fine, I didn't run the car for long at all with this ridiculously low level of oil, I add up the '1 liter' + 300 mil. of oil additive to support the 'possibly weakened non-mechanical parts that may leak oil' (any rubber part or something like that), the secret menu tells me it has 6.9 to 7.2 quarts of oil (6.53 l to 6.81 l). Now, as you are all well aware, this specific M113 50 engine takes at least 8 liters of oil, how can that sensor be telling me,- in broad daylight!, that my car has less than 1.2 liters as it should, and let me run it with no warning or asking me to fill it up?

Then I accidentally run another google search while checking the quarts, and the search comes up with Imperial Quarts as opposed to the US Quarts, which indicate that my oil level is at the exact perfect spot between 7.9 and 8.2 liters either cold or hot after 10 minutes of shutting down, now, the car is from US, has VIN code on the windscreen, and has been checked multiple times in the database to confirm that it is from the US, for Christ sake, which quarts should I trust? Do any of the US made CLS Mercs' at the time use the Imperial Quarts?!

Please, any help on this information will be helpful, from as to why my car might be eating the oil, to choosing which quarts should I trust, or if I should trust the sensor at all and go straight to the dealership with their mechanic dipstick abilities.

P.S., the car was running absolutely fine in both states - before the add 1 liter of oil state, and after the 1 liter addition was made, no weird sounds or anything remotely close to that (it even had a full diagnostic ran like 10 KM prior to the add oil fault), also, I've done more than 100 kilometers after adding 1 liter of fresh oil and no signs of any errors, checks, fill ups, leaks, or any sounds from the engine, still as smooth as butter.

Thank you very much.
