OPINIONS: Is Performance Package (030) worth it?

Looking at jumping from my '07 M6 to CLS-55! I know, it may sound odd but I am (considering it)! Noticed some damn good prices for '06 55s. Was wondering if worth holding-out for a 55 that has Performance Package (030) or not!? Opinions, specially from owners of such equipped 55 welcomed! =)

Hey, I actually placed an order for an 09 cls63 amg with the 030 package and can't wait for the delivery. I have heard that 030 package is really useful and excellent if you do alot of agressive driving. It adds bigger brakes for the front(390mm-15.4in.), limmited slip differential, forged 19in wheels, performance steering wheel with alcantara inserts, and vmax delimation to 187mph. I think that it really makes the car one of a kind. I personally have not driven one with the package but it should definately be different. I hope this helps. If you don't mind me asking, did u not like the m6 as much as cls amg? I almost went for the new m6 convertible before placing an order for the cls63 and was just curious if your m6 experience was not as good as the cls amg that you are thinking of. Also, it seems like that there is an endless battle between the two motors. Anyways, let me know what u think.

I've driven both, it wasn't worth it to me, I opted to not order it.

Yes 030 is amazing and well worth it!!! Doing this upgrade yourself would cost more. Braking and steering much improved as is body rioll.Plus we all need the 186 mph limiter vs the 155..

actually I love my M6. Having driven both, I would pick M6 is the sportier, more of a GT car that should really be considered in the same GT leage as Lambo Gall., 997TT, & Ferrari 430. I prefer the 55 as an EVERYDAY CAR when compared to the M5, Audi, and such. For everyday driving that I DO, the 55 is a wiser choice, hence my possible move over. With the M6 the lure to "gun the car & go fast" get me in trouble vs in the 55, knowing that I am in a more sub-dued, 4-door sedan, I tendancies are more timid and taimed!

I havn't driven a 55 with a 030 package (yet.. I'm taking a delivery of one in a couple of hours ) but I have been price hunting for the past month or so. CLS55s equipped with the package aren't priced that much higher than those without. Only thing is, they move off the lot alot faster. I missed out on 2 and when I found the 3rd with 030 I nego and quickly closed. If you plan on doing any perf mods, I would imagine the LSD would come in handy to get more of the power down. Also the wheels look better and diff (IMHO).

As for the suspension, I'll get back to you once I put some miles on it

I agree with the prices where they are now, the P030 package seems to be worth the cost! 2 yrs ago I would have told you to Opt out and put the 10K in aftermarket Mods

Guys? What is on the 030 package? I purchased my car after it was demo by Roger Penske. I don't have the window sticker but I know it's fully loaded. He even had an aftermarket carbon fiber trim installed. Was the 030 pkg available on 06 CLS55 AMG? If it was, is there a way for me to tell that it has it before I dump some money on a LSD and cambers/Toe links? Thanks for help.

I have the 030 package on my E63, and love it. But to be honest, I think the only noticable difference you'll feel is the suspension. The suspension is definitely stiffer. If you're coming from an M6, I would probably suggest the 030 package because it'll be a little closer to the M6 suspension than the standard AMG one.

I have the 030 package and love it - no regrets at all . Much prefer the wheels that come with the 030 than those on the regular AMG

most likely I wouild change the wheels even if I find an 030. I have seen a few IWC version which are all 030 equipped but i am not sure I like the color of the seats plus anyone who has such wants a lot more for it. The search goes on!

Looks like my steering wheel was switched out for a steering wheel similiar to the kleemann steering wheel that has some carbon fiber trim on it. Is there another way to check? Looks like dealer installed kleemann carbon fiber interior for Mr. Penske before he took it as a demo. Please help before I dump unnecessary money into upgrades. Thank you.

06 CLS55 w/ P030, 05 Jag S Type R, 05 TBird-68 Dodge Charger R/T-440 w/4speed I'm original owner
06 CLS with 030

the package has:
1. LSD
2. Alcantara steering wheel
3. stiffer suspension
4. HD brakes
5. 2 piece custom wheel rims
6. speed delimiter increased to 186mph (from 155)
6. Hi performance rated (186mph) tires

One way on a 06 cls55 to determine 030 package is check for spare tire. No spare and air pump indicates 030 package. Trunk design does not allow for spare tire.

Also check with mb dealer to run the vin on Netstar to determine optional equip.`

Do you know by any chance if any 06 e55s came with the 030 package?

exceed 155mph without AMG Performance Pkg?

Hi all, I read posts all the time but rarely post. I have a 2006 CLS55 AMG and as best as I can tell, I do not have the AMG performance pkg. I've had the car up to 165mph but had to shut it down due to running out of road, but still had pedal left, it was still gaining speed. How is this possible? I thought the std AMG was limited to 155mph.

Assuming that you weren't the first owner of the car, the previous owner could have installed a ECU tune, in which that would remove the 155mph governor. Other then that, Im not sure what it could be. Either way, it's a good thing!

Does anyone know for a fact, exactly what parts are different in the suspension of a 030 compared to stock? Stiffer bag? Larger sway bars? I have an 06 CLS55.

I've owned a p030 and a non 030 back to back.I started with a non 030 cls55 with 19000 miles. I drove it a hundred miles a day for two years, at 68000 miles I hit a mosse at 60 mph and totaled it. The car saved my life, I didn't even get hurt at all. So I got another one. This one has the performance package. Here's my take on it all. I didn't notice any differance in the suspention, and I think I would. The brakes are awesome, much broader sweet spot, but wouldn't matter in an emergency becasue the computer will stop you as fast as your tires can handle. Limited Slip Diff. is great if you want to chew some tires, otherwise doesn't matter. The rims say "look at me" a little to loud but they don't get bent every time you sneeze like the regular ones so they'll do for now. The stearing wheel is nice. I miss the security of a spare tire. Did I miss anything? Oh yeah, never went 155, but people do ask how fast it goes all the time. It's fun to say 'limited to 186!'
