Ugh...I tried to avoid this oil question but had to ask

How often are you guys changing the motor oil in the GTS?

I only ask because this is my first turbo charged vehicle, turbos do put more heat and wear on motor oils.

I drained my oil a few days ago at 8k miles and although the dealership claimed to have changed the oil at 6k miles when I bought it, this is the dirtiest motor oil I've seen. It looks like a cafe latte from Starbucks, in the bad way.

I know the dealership recommends intervals at 10k miles, but..what are your thoughts?

My plan is to change it at 3k than every 8 k. My first turbo/dry sump car as well.

If your oil was really fouled I would change again in 3k.

I used to think that dumping the oil after the first 1-2k miles was a good idea and I've done this on every car to obviously dump out any metals or whatever from break in.

I'm starting to wonder now. I know of a friend who bought a brand new AMG. The first 2000 miles it didn't use any oil. He changed his engine oil at 2000 miles since he had to change his real diff oil. After that early oil change the car stated using a quart every 400 miles or so. He was driving about 300 miles a week so imagine adding oil every week and a half. One theory is that the early oil change was the reason. Maybe the oil that MB put in is supposed to stay in there until they say to change it. It could be special break in oil.

There is no special break-in oil. From the Mobil site:

Everything that Mercedes-AMG puts into their legendary vehicles also reflects the level of lubricant technology expertise they demand. But trusting their hand-assembled, high-performance engines to Mobil 1™ advanced full synthetic motor oil was an easy decision, and now – for more than 20 years – every Mercedes-AMG leaves the factory with Mobil 1 inside.

Well just saying that Mobil site means zero. What if there was an additive. What pisses me off is all this factory silence about a lot of things and we have to extrapolate so many things beyond an owners manual.

I agree. It could be a different viscosity of Mobil 1 or have different additives. Anyway, I am the first to admit that I do not know. I am not an internet know it all. I just like badass cars.

That is how the oil on all turbo cars will look even after 500 miles on new oil. The oil lines to the turbo and oil coolers store a lot of the old oil.
