GTR on The Grand Tour

*SPOILER ALERT*

Just saw episode 2 of this season's The Grand Tour, where they review the GTR. Aaaaaand they didn't love it. I mean they recognize its undeniable performance. But the hangups were that the car isn't all wild and drifty and an angry beast that devours tires and that AMG purposefully held back power from the engine in order to come out with an even faster version (Black Series). So Clarkson was like... why even bother getting this car when you know a better one is on the way. Which makes sense on the show, but in reality everybody knows they aren't going to make that many Black Series so they'll be even harder to get. Anyway, they put the GTR around their track faster than an R8 V10+, GT3 RS, and Nissan GTR. But slower than a 650S and AM Vulcan.

Luv the show and since it's all about fun rather than real performance review, you have a 50/50 shot of them liking it.

So far the second season of Grand Tour is much better than the first. Glad they got rid of Celebrity Brain Crash and The American. GTR's track time is impressive.

Hard for me to tell. Will be more apparent as more cars are added to the leader board.

you have to remember clarkson loved the SLS because it was a drift machine... he hates track weapons like 911's and the amg gtr... he even disliked the the SLS black... there should be a AMG GTR black based on spy shots... but I think the 911 guys are happy with a GT3 even if it isnt a GT3RS...

The show is about entertainment and it excels at that

Season Two is much improved. Guess Bezos found Season One to be too timid as well...and offering to defend legal action from the BBC in order to let the boys be boys again.
Regarding Clarkson's 'blah' critique of the GTR, Susman (above) nailed it. Pure personal taste. He'd probably prefer a tuned GTS.

This sums it up. The Grand Tour is less about authentic car journalism and more about entertainment and so far through 2 episodes the 2nd season is achieving that. I love the ascerbic dialogue between all 3 hosts.
