First repair for the GTs

Welp, 800 miles on the ODO in the last month of ownership, and just had to take the car in for my first repair. Was cruising down to the grocery store when I got nailed with a rock by an 18 wheeler while passing him on the left. Grabbed a bite, took it over to the nearest autoglass repair place and got it patched up. Thankfully it was only half an inchish, so I'm sure I'll eventually stop noticing the repair spot.

Felt bad... Especially considering how close I was to just having the windshield wrapped in clearplex 2 weeks ago. I knew I was going to regret it with how thin the glass on these are.

First battle wound out of the way I suppose, could have been worse.

If you actually drive it, dings will happen .
Ive curved my rear wheel, scraped the under surface of the front lip, Rock chips in radiator intake and scuffs to the rocker panels. Thankfully my painted and carbon fiber elements are Xpel protected.

Wheel rash cist me $395.

I knew it was bound to happen, especially as my main vehicle, but still annoyed that I didn't go with my gut and get the windshield protected before permanently scarring it.

Hopping I can avoid any major paint issues before getting it autoflexed in May.

Make sure they do paint correction before installing PPF

... and put a ceramic coating on top of PPF for extra protection and a more wax-like finish - water beading, smooth feel, etc.

The shop I'm going to spends the first dayish doing paint correction and prep before spraying the Autoflex, then ceramic coat the Autoflex clearcoat, since it behaves the exact same as normal paint clear.

I was washing my previous C63 S and when I ran the rag under the front lip of the spoiler it felt rough. I looked under and there was a huge gash/scrape out of the underside. I knew right then and there, and was 99.9% sure it happened at the Aria valet in Vegas. As a habit now. I have a towel in the back and kneel down and check the car before I leave any valet. I was so pis*ed off after that. Mainly because I'm known to be a very generous tipper. They also have lost my car several times and one time it took them 30-minutes to find it. So my casino host comes down to see me off and I tell her the story about my C63 gash story. Then open the door to my GTR and get down and check it. You should have seen the look on her face.

Ooo, I'd be hot. Thankfully mine came pre-scrape (just a little), but I've yet to valet it. Seen too many dashcam videos of valet kids hot rodding cars, even base A3s and such. If a place is valet only, I'll take the SUV instead.

Don't forget that you can set alerts on the Mercedes app that would let you know if the valets joy ride. Unfortunately, it wouldn't have prevented Benzbell's issue.

As mentioned, if you actually live and drive your cars, it will eventually happen. Don't let it get to you. Race cars and tracks are beat to death, but they have the most fun. Look at one up close. They look like hell, with battle scars to show driven energy! Garage queens never get in harms way, but then again those people are just keeping the car new for the next owner. They, themselves, will never enjoy the car. My C63 has had three rocks shatter the windshield. I was depressed because I have had the original windshield for 9 years now, but you get over it. If you ever look at cars ever driven, even if they are driven just a tiny bit, they never are perfect. Always know that you can replace EVERY part of this and almost every modern car. You scratch something, ding it, bend it....just buy a new part if it bothers you. Never allow dings and nicks from getting in the way of enjoying your car. Parts are replaceable...moments are not.

Take care of your rides, but enjoy them too and always know that even the nicest cars out there are never perfect. Even they have their share of nicks and dings and get parts repaired or replaced.
