Launch Control on GTC

Hi all. I know im usually pretty up on tech and stuff like that but i have not found the directions on launch control for the GTC. I did find the directions for the GTS but it appears different since the directions did not seem to work.

Anyone out there figure it out?

Katie

If the car is warmed up, steering wheel is pointed straight ahead, what happens when you pull and hold both paddles at a dead stop? Does it mention race launch in the small screen between the gauges?

I remember someone mentioning the warmup period being something like 10 miles driven, before it works, but I haven't tested it without doing this, so not sure if that could be the hiccup or not.

I tried what was said. Warmed up car driven a good number of miles. Sterling straight, brake pedal pushed hard, car in race mode, both sifters pulled at same time. I dont seem to see anything on the screen in the center of the gauges.

am starting to think its more like you simply hold the brake and nail the gas pedal and let go of the brake and launch works thereafter but I dont feel like trying it without total confirmation.

Oh I saw the video. Yea its like what I was thinking. You simply nail the gas while holding the brake and let go of the brake to launch.

It’s dead simple: hard on the brake; foot hard on the throttle; release brake, and I think it works in S; S+ and R modes.

Check the owners manual under Race Start. GTC Race Start is on page 137 of my manual. I refer to mine frequently. If you don't have a pdf version, you can find it here. https://www.mbusa.com/en/owners/manuals

Sounds a lot more user friendly than our method. I wonder if it returns better times, as LC doesn't get anywhere close to the advertised times, due to wheel spin.

LC is hard on tranny and really doesn’t get you out of the hole with all the spin. What Works for me best way is to totally turn off traction the holding the traction button down for a few seconds, and then medium throttle for one second and then full throttle .......that method really hooked me up.

I would hope to think if Mercedes builds a feature into would not be hugely impactful upon any of the cars components. hmmmm

I might have to play around with this, now that I have my Dragy. So far, the absolute best I can get with LC is 4.01 0-60.

I think you’re right, Katie. R & T did 30 consecutive LC starts on a 991 TT-S and it didn’t bother the PDK one bit; I don’t know why our DCT would be bothered either. The TCU will shut down the LC if temps get too hot, etc.

That being said I don’t think it’s the fastest way to always launch the car, so wouldn’t use it over and over.

So my 2018 gt roadster will only go into LC if
I am up to temp
In S or S+
Steering wheel pointing straight
Left foot hard on the brake
Pull both paddles
Pull just RH paddle to confirm
Plant right foot to floor on the accelerator
Release brake

When you people do just the brake and accelerator are you getting any announcements in the info screen? I do.
I can see the R being different as it has race mode and I believe you can vary the revs that it launches in?

I didn't even know you can totally turn off traction control this way. So what's the point of the TC button when you normally press it if it doesn't turn off TC?

Well it doesn’t turn off TC completely, but it takes about 75% out. Care should be taken LOL. But this is really the best way to get off the line. I ran 11.2 @130 using this method with old super sports.
