Tires and Alignment
Today I had to replace my tires and I wanted to document this case.
As some of you know by now, I have been trying to document things I have done to the car and give some honest feedback to the community.
First, it appears that the tires on my vehicle were the original tires for the car (manufactured in 2015). If that is indeed the case, I was able to get 27k road miles out of them (no track time). Seems like it may be more than most have got out of their tires. the fronts were down to wires on the inside edge, but the backs had some meat left (I burnt some off in a few donuts before I swapped).
Now, I live in the Pacific North West part of the USA. Its rainy up here. Because of that, I chose to go with All Seasons. I dont track my car, so the loss of performance and grip isnt something I am horribly worried about. Price is also a concern for me, because unlike some of you, I do have a budget I keep to in order to keep the wife happy (And to keep myself in the same bed). With all that in mind, I chose:
Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS
- Fronts: 275/35/19
- Rear: 305/30/20
Total install cost for me was just over $900
I also had the shop change my alignment to remove a little bit of toe from my car (front and back). This is an effort to get a few extra miles out of my tires, although we will see how it goes. In general I am not looking to eek every bit of performance out of the car, so I dont see this as a huge draw back. My settings are now:
- Front Toe: L:0.09 / R:0.10
- Rear Toe: L:0.10 / R:0.14
I will update this thread in a year or so to discuss the effects this has had on my car, tire life, and performance.
Happy to answer questions, or absorb your jeers, as you see fit.
T.
