Carbon Ceramics in the Rain

Hey Fellas -

How have your experiences been so far in the rain? I noticed after driving on the highway for a bit without any real braking requirements, the first time or two I hit them the stopping power is greatly diminished. 7c (44f) roughly where I am right now and raining everyday.

This fairly normal? I suspect it is as the rain is probably keeping them cool . I don't notice in the stop and go around town or residential areas.

My 18 gtc with the carbon brakes work great at all twines wet or dry. I only wish the were available for my Maybach. The Maybach brakes take a lot more pedal push effort and leave a mess of brake dust I hate cleaning. The gtc has no brake dust.

Thanks. I’ll look into this then.

We have CCB's on the GTC and the E63s which coincidently weighs as much as the S-Class sedan (not Maybach though). Brakes bite well on both cars even with the 1000 lbs weight difference. The GTC brakes so well that I thought our SL brakes were not working. The E63s has a reputation for having only average/poor stopping distance even on CCB's.
Both cars brake well in any weather condition.

Like all brakes, the CCMs benefit greatly from being properly broken in, in that you want to get a good layer of pad onto the rotor.

Mine always stopped well except I found them to be ‘grabby’ the last few mph before coming to a stop on the street which made modulation difficult. Even before I took the car to the track the first time, I did some high speed major braking from say 80 mph down to 5 mph without engaging ABS, and it made a tremendous difference. Dead simple to do on track of course, you just have to acknowledge that your first session will have to be very short whilst you condition the pads.
