Can I go with a taller tire to fill in wheel gaps?

To answer your question, yes you can.
But it wont fill as much of the gap as you think. And the entire car will sit up high and look goofy as hell. And it will handle worse. And your speedo will probably be way off.

I really didn't want to lower mine but I did after a while. H&R and KW HAS are the two primary options iirc. If you have good roads around you, H&R will probably work. If you have bad roads or dont want to risk a super stiff ride, go with KW.
edit: Renntech makes good stuff. My mind has just been conditioned to never buy anything they sell based on the Euro tax.
