Tire & Rim Insurance for 2020 AMG GTR Coupe

In Canada, Ontario, vehicle insurance is a must. with this brand new 2020 AMG GTR Coupe, the dealership offers 5 year unlimited Kil for Tire & Rim Insurance at the cost of $2,890 Canadian. I mean if anything were to happen to a vehicle under insurance. they can replace the tire and rim. but do any of you guys still went a head and purchase the tire and rim insurance from a dealership? is it worth it? I mean it definitely is not worth if with in 5 years you did not use the replacement. but I mean no one wants anything to happen to their tire & rim. So what makes you guys still purchase it?

I did

And have already used it. I had a tire with a nail in it and had it replaced. I got 2 or 3 year tire and rim plus windshield for about $3k. I already saved $600 so all good here. Btw I’m in Toronto. Not sure you’ll need it for 5 years unless your keeping the car...

Not a fan of wheel insurance at all. Like I posted earlier, I can get a seven-year 70,000 mile gold car warranty from Fidelity for 3300. A buddy of mine just got a quote for $4000 on his new 911 wheels and tires for four years. This is a huge moneymaker for all dealers. Most wheels can be fixed for 250 and tires are what they are.

I would tend to agree with you

But there is a huge difference between Canada and the USA. We don’t have access to plans like that here.

Autotrader has GTS up here in the high $70’s to just over $100k for 16-17’s. Cheapest one I’ve seen here in Ontario is $79,988 and most expensive is close to $110k all in CAD... With the 35% discount the $79k car falls right into place around $52k USD

3000.00 for insurance doesnt make sense to me. You can get a set from Ebay for 4 grand-ish and that will come with TPMS and tires.

Like I said it’s a Canadian thing primarily

The insurance is unlimited replacement of wheels and or tires plus refinishing if curbed in certain circumstances. Complete sets are much more expensive up here. Not a chance I could get a complete set of forged multi spokes plus sport cup 2’s here for 4K and I am aware of the previous auction of that GTR set which even if I won would have cost me almost $6500 CAD plus taxes and duties to have them shipped up here. We just don’t have the same market here you guys do there. That said I do get your logic though.

for sure there is that awful currency exchange that hits hard in Canada, but the way you source these wheels is by trolling ebay.de - there are about 6 sets on there now (I was trolling last night). The trouble is 4000.00 USD is about 72,000 CAD, right? (I can make fun because I am Canadian!). If you live in a border town or within a short drive you drop ship them to the US and have them put on there....not saying that I have ever done that (nothing to see here...) Rubber alone can be $2K so even if its $5K it still seems expensive...fully realizing as I write this that I am tempting fate on my next parking experience for a full on curb rash!

Seriously tho - 'unlimited' is because a fix is about 200 bucks per road rash experience - so at that Premium you can do a LOT of touch parking before it becomes a cost savings exercise.

curb rash is not worthwhile because they won’t fix unless the tire is flat (I’ve stabbed a tire in service before) which is stupid. But up here the roads are complete ****e and flats are easy to come by. They don’t fix ANY flats btw. Just a new tire and at $600 per plus install and road force balancing it adds up. FYI I got a “ great deal” on my sc2’s at $2500 installed.

Either 2 or 3 years max.

Not likely I’ll hold the car last warranty and if I do then so be it.
