Car to avoid

So last September I had an accident at out local track with my GT R. I was fine, the car did an amazing job of protecting me, I walked away without a scratch. The car was a total loss, hit a barrier wall at around 90 and stayed on top of the wall for about 300 yards. The car was auctioned off at Copart yesterday for $50,000. The pictures they used did not convey the full extent of the damage and the description said "right front end damage". Structurally the car is in really bad shape, the transaxle was leaking, the carbon fiber underbelly bracing ripped off, front control arms pushed into the engine. There was enough force that one of the small radiators in front traveled another 200 yards past where the car stopped. The point of my post is to list the VIN#WDDYJ7KA5JA013326 with my comments in the event someone tries to band aid this car back together. This car needs to be parted out.

I just purchased my next adventure, a CAV GT40 replica, I think I will stick to cars and coffee with it Thanks

Sorry to hear about the track incident, but glad that you were not injured:

Couple of questions for educational purposes:
1. How did you end up in the wall?
2. How did things work out with your insurance company, and did you have track insurance in place?

1. The track has a bump that unsettles a car if you are off the line. I was going faster than I should have been based on my experience. Once hell broke lose I did everything wrong, let off the gas hit the brakes which transferred weight to the front spun the car. The kinetic energy was incredible, I expected the car to slow significantly after hitting the wall but it kept going with what seemed like forever.

2. I used Lockton track day insurance. They came, they saw, they wrote a check. Very pleased with the process, highly recommended.

In hindsight I regret putting lap timing equipment in the car before I had more experience. I was very motivated to improve lap times every outing, pushing it to 9/10. I was doing laps that would have qualified me towards the top of big bore vintage racers and got overly confident. My plan going forward will be lots of skid pad work to improve car control. The GT40 will be a cars n coffee deal. I love the track and will likely get an older road course NASCAR for track fun. Looking forward working on a car myself and not going to the dealer for everything.

Sorry to hear your loss, and glad that you walked away safely from the impact. Cars can be bought again but life is only once.

Great choice on the GT40 - it's a forever classic

I did buy it, arrives next week. First stop is a local race shop that has a long history and stellar reputation for work on high end vintage racers (https://jandlfabricating.com) I want to make sure it is 100% safe and sound before I do anything with it. I'll update once I get some miles on it. Thanks

Please do. Very interested in this car. So iconic.

Start an off topic thread here. “ when we’re not racing a GT”

Hopefully the car goes overseas, these people buy wadded up cars for ridiculous prices. With buy fees and all other associated fees your car was well over $60,000 when it left the copart lot.

And if it goes overseas, hopefully it stays there. A guy on another forum bought a used Bentley GT with low miles, THEN he started to investigate it. He found a Russian license plate in the trunk tucked in the spare wheel well, then evidence there is a gaping hole in the mileage. Apparently, it came back via Canada, then he bought it from a private seller in Michigan. Caveat Emptor....
