The 1875 quote is fake.

Owning both "horseless carriages" and "automobiles," I have some knowledge of the history of each. Automobiles weren't called "horseless carriages" until about 1895. And in 1875 nothing was known about them in the United States.

Fake but fun.

Wow, given the posts who would have guessed that the topic of the thread was between a 2019 or 2021 GTC roadster or whatever the 2022 model would be instead

If you purchased the car I would say keep your current model, any additional performance or comfort features would be negligible.

If its a lease and you put more stock on the newness of a vehicle I would say go for it.

-thread back on track.

pretty common for these threads to go way off topic! Rather annoying!

My apologies, and to the OP.....I certainly contributed to the derailment here and I know better. I tried to delete some of my posts, but I must not have the post count to do that yet, and if someone with access wants to, please do. On reflection, nothing I posted is important here, especially given this topic.

Sorry again...

This has been a fantastic discussion and very helpful! Thank-you very much to all who are participating!

To follow-up, I have managed to secure one of the last production slots in Canada for a 2021 GTC. I ordered it in diamond white with a macchiato beige interior and silver console with matte carbon fibre inside as well as carbon fibre doorsills. I also added the gold carbon ceramic brakes - mostly because I'm a detail nut and I just can't stand brake dust. The Armour-all brake repellent spray is amazingly effective - especially on top of a layer of ceramic protectant on the wheels.....but there is nothing like the complete absence of brake dust! I hope that the carbon ceramics last me a while. They are not cheap to replace ($8000 per side).

I also ordered a new 2021 G63 to replace my 2018 model. It is an amazing machine, but I like the idea of keeping it fresh. I hope that I'll be able to sell my 2018 model without too much trouble.

I agree that the world is going "electric" and that California is slowly trying to ban ICE vehicles and limit new gas stations in certain jurisdictions.

But most intelligent people (ie. not "woke") people would agree that California is governed and administered by idiots that are increasingly disconnected from reality. Changing the entire economic model of energy creation/distribution/marketing and supply away from the use of petroleum sources is not going to be quick, easy or even possible without a viable replacement. Hydrogen might be an answer, but it is currently good from far but up close, far from good.

Perhaps cold fusion would allow this - but it is at least another 25 years away before being able to put to widespread use.

I think that ICE vehicles are ok - especially the really cool ones - for another quarter century at least.

I'd be interested in others' opinions.

I have ordered it from Country Hills. Their sales and service have been amazing. I really like the sales and service people at the downtown store, but they're just a little too far out of my airspace for convenience. I've never been to Lonestar, but lots of folks in the South like them.

Well, whatever the 2022 is, F1 isn’t buying what it’s selling...the GT Safety Car is dead.

True, the Aston and the AMG GTR will split the races this year, but each with the 4.0L Bi-turbo AMG engine. Mercs will continue to run up front during safety car periods!

Looks good at night on the street in the mountain town, Canmore AB.
I was also thinking about upgrading my 2019 GTC Roadster to a 2021 as it will be the final year of this model. But I'll have to shell out about $86000 incl tax after a trade-in. Seems a bit much for marginally better specs (Apple Car Play, Front Camera, new steering wheel). All performance specs and body design are exactly the same. Other than being able to say I own the final year of the GTC Roadster, it just makes no sense. Your thoughts?

Since you asked for our thoughts...
It makes ZERO sense to sell a 2019 and get a 2021.

2019 is actually the better one to one for the long-term. Why?
- sounds better. Sport+ exhaust/cracks+pops was reduced for 2020 (at least in N. America, and I'm sure in Europe too)
- the center console lost its bespoke design from 2020 onwards. The GT was originally designed with 8 round knobs in a V-shape because they resemble a V8 (an engine that is about to become all but extinct)! The flat rectangular screens are not nearly as cool, they are not unique to the GT 2-door, and they are not necessary (since all the dials are on the steering wheel)
- I prefer the analog dash, and this will be what future collectors covet -- trust me. Every car will soon have a digital dash. Saying you have a "vintage" analog dash GT will be cool in the not too distant future
- CarPlay sucks. I posted why in a recent post here. I have it in my 2019 G wagon and could easily do without.
- front camera is marginally better, but it's not a 360 camera, which is what the car needs
- you'll take a major $$$ loss, as you pointed out

Enjoy your 2019!

Thanks Surge! I love the crazy crackles and pops. Great point about the 8 knobs in the centre console and analog gauges. For the $86000 CAD, I can go get a couple of Ducatti bikes, or get another descent daily driver.

8 knobs are supposed to represent V8 …

I see you have the High End Burmester and a great spec all around. Nothing to upgrade to!
