GT Black Series Production Numbers USA
I will answer any and all questions about the GT Black to the best of my ability. The production numbers are not final as Benz is being vague. (Supposedly less than 375 will be made for the USA)
Total BS heading to the USA as of 5/14/2021 total 360 - 6/1/21 365 - 6/11/21 368 - 6/15/21 370 - 6/21/21 371 Production is DONE
Vehicles are now pushed back all the way into mid January (the 12th to be exact and that's 255 Designo Olive) 1/7/22
Last 8 are at port in Germany 3/11/22
Odd ***** that I saw/see;
Carfax UPDATE TO THIS LIST will come end of 2022. I will keep track of which GT BS is still alive and which one is not, etc....

Interesting ... only three cars have made it over to VPC since my last update on 4/24.
https://mbworld.org/forums/coupe-roa...ml#post8322175
My only hope is that the EPA process has already started that way whenever all these made cars waiting for their remaining parts get shipped at the same time they can be shipped to customers without being stuck at VPC for another several months.
And if it does turn out that less than 400 cars make it to the US including P1 customer cars then this is going to be one of the most collectable cars ever and inevitably half of them will be mothballed.

I won't name your build here, you can PM me if you want to confirm I'm looking at your car, but it is still at port in Germany.

My dealer is very communicative and checks on it all the time for me ... iirc it hasn't changed status since 4/20 when it went to B6.

Haha. Thanks. I am at the dealership on Tuesday. Wife is trading in her 2020 G63 for the GLS63. I'll bring it up again. Last I was told where I live was only getting 1 and was long ago spoken for (even before I grabbed my Pro in November of 2019). I suspect nothing has changed but if it has I'll try and sneak in.

Burt:
Thanks very much for your information.
Your perspective on a few things would be greatly appreciated;
1. Will the US version of the GT BLACK now be delivered as a 2022?
2. When will GTBS production end?
3. Have the chip supplier issues been resolved?
4. have the Carbon Fiber supplier issues been resolved?
5. Do you have a “best guess” as to when completed cars will start being shipped to the US VPC’S?
6. Is there a current total number of GTBS that will be made.
7. Soulsea asked, but do you know if US DOT/EPA testing has started or when it will start?
Many thanks
Jerry

1. Will the US version of the GT BLACK now be delivered as a 2022?
No, VINs are assigned already, the vehicles are all 2021.
2. When will GTBS production end?
I believe the September allocation is it, they said under 375, they're at 360 right now. Most new models scheduled are already 2022, this is the only 2021 model being built after August.
3. Have the chip supplier issues been resolved?
No, and it will not be for a while. Benz has stopped production of GLC and GLB to use the chips in the more profitable models ie. EQS, S Class, etc...
4. have the Carbon Fiber supplier issues been resolved?
I have to prod around on this one.
5. Do you have a “best guess” as to when completed cars will start being shipped to the US VPC’S?
There's already 9 state side, 4 on the water, and hundreds waiting to be shipped. This is not to say it won't be like the E63W4 and GTR launch where they sat at VPC for months.
6. Is there a current total number of GTBS that will be made.
I was told less than 375 for the USA, I do not recall world wide number, but I will followup.
7. Soulsea asked, but do you know if US DOT/EPA testing has started or when it will start?
It has, I believe the 29th is the day the certification is supposed to get cleared.

My hope is that whatever is delaying the BS in Germany, be it chips, CF bits, or both, is overlapping what would have been EPA clearance delays anyway. Meaning that it doesn't matter if they're sitting there OR here, as long as they're not sitting both there AND here. So I'm glad the EPA process has been triggered, this hopefully means that by the time they get shipped they can go straight to the dealers without further delays.

These two things are interrelated. The GTR sat for half a year at VPC because of EPA clearance delays, and then a little while longer because of the active front splitter stop sale.

Many thanks for all of your information. It is of tremendous help s we move forward.
As Soulsea mentioned, many of us are GTR launch veterans. We waited for over 7 months for our GTR’s which in his and my case, sat at the Brunswick VPC OUTSIDE in the salt air and at least one hurricane. As you know nobody at the local or regional level has these answers. They would like to help but are unable to due to lack of information so YOU are a very valuable rescource that we all appreciate.
A couple of other questions I forgot to include;
1. Is the GTBS production running at full capacity now and do you know how many cars do they schedule to complete per week/month?
2. Can us commoners request and obtain approval for Paint-To-Order cars? I noticed several paint color names that aren’t available in the US.
3. Do you happen to know the current US regulations for model year change over? It used to and may still be that if a manufacturer hasn’t delivered a current model year car by the end of February of that year then it is designated as the next model year.
We all know that the serial/model numbers are essentially “virtual” now and all that is required to change it over is a reprint of the Monroney and the Certificate Of Origin.
We experienced some of this at the Brunswick VPC when ordered features were removed at the VPC.
4. Do you know if all of the GTBS will be made in 2021 and when production is scheduled to cease?
5. What other platforms will use the new “Flat Plane” motor going forward? We are all assuming there will be a “E”/ Flat Plane platform very soon…2022?
Again your tremendous insite and willingness to share is greatly appreciated.
Very best regards
Jerry

Felt like a second class citizen ( after spending way over $2mln on their cars since 2000) but understand their position, a single purchase of the P. One (in $$) beats my 20 years of buying lesser AMGs.

1. Is the GTBS production running at full capacity now and do you know how many cars do they schedule to complete per week/month?
It is not running at full capacity, roughly 15 will be built in May, June through August is roughly 1 per business day, and September now has 3 scheduled to be built.
2. Can us commoners request and obtain approval for Paint-To-Order cars? I noticed several paint color names that aren’t available in the US.
Can not, even I couldn't get a paint to sample after pulling every favour possible all the way to the top. It is MB USA not doing it, not MB Germany. I got the run around when I tried to get an answer why MBUSA is not doing it. The US paint to samples are built by MB Germany, not MBUSA.
3. Do you happen to know the current US regulations for model year change over? It used to and may still be that if a manufacturer hasn’t delivered a current model year car by the end of February of that year then it is designated as the next model year.
The GT BS is stamped, going through EPA/DOT etc... it will not be changed to 2022. 1 year run. No you can not fly it here from Germany on your dime, already tried.
4. Do you know if all of the GTBS will be made in 2021 and when production is scheduled to cease?
This September build should be the close, however, I have been given conflicting answers. I was told they will build less than 375, but they will build to capacity. I'm not sure if that was due to the pandemic and them not being sure they could even build that many? Your guess is as good as mine, when pushed for clarification the subject was changed. This pandemic has reeked havoc on all production.
5. What other platforms will use the new “Flat Plane” motor going forward? We are all assuming there will be a “E”/ Flat Plane platform very soon…2022?
I can't answer that right now, June maybe.
Please bear in mind this is the information I have right now, I am not the decider, as much as I'd love to be. Anything and everything can change on a whim, just like MBUSA stopped the 2021 S Class production and started building the 2022 model as of July of 2021.

There's a yt video of it.
There haven't been any US customer deliveries yet so the assumption is that It has to be like the one that was spotted in Florida driving around with manufacturers plates.
Did you happen to catch the plates?
