I'm 6 weeks into having some 2 piece 20"/21" wheels made for a 2019 GTC, I get a call today that they can't make them work with the CCB option.
They have offered to make a set of 3 piece for the same price but I'm concerned about the "trough" in the barrel of 3 piece wheels.
Is that still an issue with 3 piece wheels? I had a set of 3 piece HREs on an E55 that was ridiculous to drive if it rained.
Can anyone confirm the "trough" issue? Share pics of your multi piece wheels with CCB fitted? Recommendations?
No idea what the trough issue is or how a wheel could affect wet road adhesion but I can highly recommend the Brixton forged wheels I have that are 20/21 with CCB’s.
Some more research on my part.... the "trough" happens on 3 piece wheels with a flat lip as opposed to a step lip or reverse lip.

What is different about the CCBs as opposed to steel brakes are the calipers or rotors larger or both? I have these 2 -Piece Modulares on my R but DO NOT have CCBs..

So that other's know, 3-piece wheels that have a "reverse lip" design (a lip without a "step") water can get temporarily trapped within the barrel near the mounting flange of the center face. This could occur whenever water is near the wheels (raining, car wash, etc.). If it happened, the water would make the wheel balance uneven and cause vibrations making it feel as if the wheel was out of round or you had a flat tire. Over the years wheel manufacturers have moved away from these types of lips and use step lips instead which eliminates virtually all of these problems.
