Is the GTR becoming a collectors item?
I love my 35 year owned 65 OTS, still Drive it regularly, AND, TO ME, my loaded 2018 GT Roadster IS the same car.....just 60 years newer.
I LOVE them both.....
It's going to be my kids problem what to do with them...
They are JUST cars, folks...... they aren't life.......

I get that we are going electric but that's a de-facto push by legislative mandates on manufacturers to achieve emissions targets. Some execs (Barra, Farley and others) are making big statements about going all electric. I also work with Tier 1's that are already rethinking their businesses for the next 2-5 years anticipating the end of IC (in their words). Yet, while electrics are now common in metro areas of the coasts, you don't see them in the middle of the country, range continues to be an issue. I'm betting IC is good for another 20 years and longer if enthusiasts vote with their dollar.
I didn't say all V8s were rare. I said the rarer of the V8s will go up in value or hold value. Some cars on the list are much rarer than others. . People want what they can't have. When people can't have exotic, fire breathing V8 sports cars, they will want them more. And they will pay for them.
I think. ;-)
Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating for EVs. I loath the idea of driving an appliance, even one with great acceleration. To me, EV acceleration is a party trick and not being able to smash the gas pedal anytime I want because I might not make it home or will have to wait for 2 hours, violates my right to uninterrupted and unlimited consumption of energy.
However, I'm starting to see Tesla's show up at track days and lemme tell you they are putting down some serious lap times. No one wants to hear this, myself included but its reality. They are really fast...for a few laps at least.
What I don't see is AMG GT cars. And I mean never, not a single AMG GT in the last 3-4 years at Fontana, Buttonwillow, Chuckwalla. They have to be there, just not when I'm there I guess. My out of state friends don't see them much either. I also don't see many GT cars on the roads. So I suppose there could be the emergence of collect-ability in the future for an AMG GT that has historically massive depreciation and relatively low demand but I doubt it and certainly not soon because rare doesn't mean desirable. 2021 GT sales ~3000, 991 sales ~10k, Corvette sales ~33k, Mustang sales ~50k.
I think. ;-)

Not quite the same. Only the brand name will be adopted by BMW in 2025.
Thanks, did not know that.
Kind regards.

Before the inflated car market, deal's were easily found on GTRs. My buddy bought a brand new 2020 GTR with CCB for $140k about 1.5 years ago in SoCal. I nearly picked up a 2018 with 38 miles for $138k with CCB from Chicago about 2.5 years ago.
I believe the current market is temporary and an eventual return to normal will bring normal GT depreciation / prices.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

I’ll stick with Porsche and Mercedes. I can tell you my son owned a ‘16 GTS. Drove it for two years and then sold it and MADE $7,000. IMO…the design of the AMG GT body is priceless.
