Wing Help (Torque Specs)

Anyone know what the torque specs should be for mounting a wing to the car (mine is a DarwinPro)? I guessed at 7 pounds and used that. I've got to take the whole thing off because the seal is not tight and when I did a water test there was some that got through so I figured I'd ask about the torque. The gasket looked good and everything seemed to line up right but still some water got in. I did plug the drain tubes. It was a little bit of a bummer. I was pretty excited to get it on the car after waiting a couple weeks for it to arrive and then waiting for the base to get painted to match the car.

From what I have seen on Youtube videos you tighten by hand making sure the weather stripping is making contact. Tighten by hand, to make sure not to overtighten it. You have so many screws (10 or more) and points of contact that you do not need more force than hand tight it seems. I hope that helps

Hi,

The area is large and has many screws. (about 15?)
The part is made of thin sheet metal and is easy to deform.
In order for it to be waterproof, it must be tightened absolutely evenly.
It is really important to work with a torque wrench here.

The screws (M6) are only tightened very lightly.
You're making a mistake with absolute certainty.

The torque is just:
3 Nm (approx. 2.2 ft/lps)

Additional:
I always use butyl in addition (or exclusively) for such seals.
This remains permanently elastic and is very easy to remove. Even with a later renewal.
Just use "a lot". Too much comes out. Wait 2-3 hours and then "dab" the "to much" with a piece of butyl. (sticks strongly only to itself)
Looks absolutely clean then.

There is "sealing cord" in different diameters.
It's cheap, recommend 5mm.
You can make it easy thinner. Only Push.
Belongs in every tool box.

Kind regards.

Stenzel

too many...
Yes the butyl is available at many auto parts stores, like this
Amazon Amazon
I’ve used with great success.

Works quite well when quieting door skins/braces also and many other uses.
