Quick Question about adding coolant
I have been getting transmission temperatures over the normal 220 F, I am in Florida so during hard high RPM driving, the temperature has gone above 240 F, at times 248 F (this is recent, before I never saw anything above 220F).
I have seen the Transmission overheating error message come up a couple of times. I have no leaks that I can see but I am taking it to the local dealer, unfortunately, they don't have appointments until the end of the month.
In the meantime I want to add coolant, I see there are two reservoirs one with a black bottom (I assumed engine) and to the left of it a white bottom (I assume transmission). Both seem to need to be topped off.
I saw here in the forum to go with Valvoline Zerex G05. Now my question is do I add to both reservoirs? or does one overflow to the other? I don't want to overfill it. Thanks!

Hi,
The larger container (black bottom) is for the engine cooling water circuit.
The smaller, spherical container is responsible for charge air cooling and transmission cooling, the NTK circuit (Nieder Temperatur Kreislauf = low temperature circuit)
And no, these of course, are not connected. Then only 1 container would be necessary (e.g. the SLK 32 had that)
Kind regards
