Red Line Oil 75W90NS GL-5 GEAR OIL for AMG GT transaxles

I made an inquiry to Red Line Oil about a suitable fluid for the transaxle in my AMG GT-S, as the Shell Spirax S5 ATE 75W-90 is impossible to find where I live, and I am not wanting to import it from oversees. There are currently two different ones recommended for the car on their site, so I asked which of the two was the right one. Here is the nice response I got one day later:

"Thank you for contacting Red Line Oil, in the gear portion of your transaxle the 75W90NS would be recommended, a suitable replacement for the 236.26 fluid. I will adjust the mapping, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Regards,

Dave Granquist"

Here is the listing of OEM compatibility from their site:

RED LINE 75W90NS HIGH-PERFORMANCE GEAR OIL is a fully-synthetic formula with ester base stocks, designed for use in manual transmissions and transaxles that require GL-5 lubricants. This non-slip formula is formulated for shear stability, less gear noise and consistent viscosity. Extreme pressure (EP) additives allow for use with hypoid gears, but the lack of friction modifiers causes less slipperiness for proper synchronizer operations. Friction modifier can be added or used to customize limited-slip differential operation.

One caveat about using Redline 75W-90NS might be when using it for the base GT that has a mechanical limited slip differential. I honestly don’t know what is required, I’m not an expert. Redline’s recommendation specifically says it does not have the friction modifiers required for a mechanical limited slip differential. I guess one would have to add it in manually?

@TModelle That wouldn't apply for anything above the base GT right (GTS, GTC, etc.)?

I got a reply from Red Line when I inquired about the need for any friction modifier for the AMG GT-S:"In your AMG transaxle gearset the 75W90NS is recommended, a suitable replacement for the Spirax S5 ATE 75W-90.

The 75W90NS is designed with the proper coefficient of friction for the synchros, you shouldn’t need to add any friction modifier and it’s use could adversely impact shiftability."

So the fluid straight out of the bottle is the recommended fill. Not sure about the AMG GT with the mechanical LSD.
