New steering wheel now brings up "Lane keeping Assist Inoperative"

Hey guys. I got a new steering wheel from Askcarbon. I installed it as it was fairly simple but now I am getting this message on my screen after about 10 minutes of driving time and it won't go away. "Lane Keeping Assist Inoperative". I can make it go away for a few seconds, but then it comes back. Any advice to either fix this or get rid of the screen? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm assuming you bought and installed a complete steering wheel.

If you're lucky, your steering wheel has this "Lane Keeping Assist" installed and you just forgot to plug into the steering wheel control unit. (2-pin plug, top / right) Remove the airbag and you will see this.

If you're unlucky, the "Lane Keeping Assist" (a "vibration motor") isn't built into your new steering wheel.

This part is permanently installed on the GT 190 steering wheel with "Lane Keeping Assist" and cannot be replaced or retrofitted.
(There are also bigger MB steering wheels where you can swap this motor unit)

Unfortunately, your only options are to replace the steering wheel with the right one, or code out the “Lane Keeping Assist”.
This means delete code: 22P
But now activate code: 234 at the same time.
Otherwise you will also lose the “blind spot assist”. (mirror triangles)

To complete:
Current MB steering wheels no longer have this “vibration”. Here the vibration (or counter-steered) is generated via the electric power steering.
GT190 is one of the last MBs with hydraulic power steering.

Best regards

Stenzel

Thank you for that. I was just told that askcarbon, the ones who sold me the wheel will sell me a new board for the steering wheel so that I can use my lane keeping assist. He also said I can turn it off temporarily. How do I do that?

thanks again

you can turn it off through the cluster. go through the options till you find lane assist and select off.

I ordered a CF steering wheel and was assured that it had vibration motor and it didn't. Wasn't too happy about the prospect of having a huge idiot message every time I drove the car but also didn't want to go through the hassle of waiting for a replacement, paying to have it swapped out and having to return the other one. If you use the key slot in the glove box and turn it to position 1 you can access the lane keep assist and turn it off. So far the warning hasn't reappeared.

Hey Jeff. You can disable it in the steering wheel function as the other poster said. It has not reappeared. Although it stinks that I cannot use lane keeping assist with this wheel. The wheel is much nicer than the one that comes with the car, but yeah it’s unfortunate.
