Play Spotify using cable instead of Bluetooth?
Not having CarPlay is usually fine with me, but I have a weird issue where playing music through Bluetooth, I get pretty frequent skipping. Which doesn't make much sense to me, but whatever. I tried subverting this by disconnecting from bluetooth and connecting my phone via cable to the USB port in the center console, but then music won't play at all from Spotify. Its like the car wants there to be a folder full of music to play from, and having it streamed doesn't seem to cooperate.
Has anyone gotten this to work, am I just doing something stupid? This is in a 2018 GTR.

While USB technically can carry audio, that's not usually supported as an audio input for infotainment systems. If you select USB as the source, it treats the connected device as a storage device, not an audio device. So, no, you can't stream audio over USB, except with CarPlay. BT skipping can have multiple causes. You may have an interference in your car or it's caused by bugs and incompatibility. iOS regularly has BT issues when new versions come out. If you google it you find all kinds of answers. Unfortunately, your car's Infotainment system is rather outdated by now, so issues are more likely to occur. There may be a firmware update.
If you want wired audio, then your only option would be a Lightning to AUX adapter and then plug it into the analog AUX port if you still have one. These ports have slowly been disappearing on newer cars, though. Don't remember if NTG 5 still has an AUX port.

I appreciate the response, that's a bummer though. I don't think it does have an AUX port, but I'll double check. Guess the other option is an aftermarket CarPlay unit, but those seem like such a gamble and I really don't want to screw with the wiring in this car, based on my experiences with previous cars...

Hey before you give up, unless you've already done exactly this, go into your phone and "forget" the connection to your car. Then reboot your phone, reboot the car just by turning it off walking away for a bit and going and turning back on again and then reconnecting with Bluetooth as if you never connected to the car before. This will often fix Bluetooth connectivity issues which is what your experiencing. If it's still not working well, try someone else's phone so you can identify if it's your phone or if it's the car. If it's the car yeah, that might be a problem unless you have an extended warranty.
