Where is the thermostat and water temp sender in the engine bay?

Can someone help point me to the location of the thermostat and water temp sending unit in the engine bay?

Thanks Stenzel. The video has 2 parts and after watching the 1st part the second part begins saying they were incorrect and the location is a different area. Does anyone have a parts diagram that shows the water/coolant temp sensor location and can you access it without too much difficulty?

Odd looking M177/178. Looks like an M156.

Hi,

Video:
This is an M177. The M156 engine is designed differently.
First video shows the parts. At 1:15 ist the thermostat housing. Between 2:10 and 2:11 they remove the temperature sensor.(On Top)
The 2nd video shown the thermostat for engine oil.

Today it is no longer simply a thermal expansion element, mounted in the outlet of the engine.
In addition to small and large water circuits, there can "standing" water circuits. This works with an additional electrically heated thermostat.
This can take on 5 different states. e.g. emergency running function 120 degrees Celsius (248 degrees Fahrenheit)

There is on the M177/M178:

The “mechanical” water thermostat:
Part number: A177 200 55 00
Pictured: Blue circle
This is the hole housing, unfortunately it's one big part. The actual "thermostat" is behind the heater element.

The "electric thermostat heater element"
Part number: A177 200 06 15
Pictured: Red circle

The water temperature sensor is located at the top/right of the thermostat housing. (Slightly set back)
Part number: A000 905 61 02
Pictured: green circle

Troubleshooting?
If you want to measure temperatures, the engines normally run at 105 degrees Celsius (221 degrees Fahrenheit)

Best regards

Stenzel

My mistake. Can't trust my old eyes and tiny phone screen. I can now see the round exhaust ports and now that I think about it I have never seen the head without an exhaust manifold in situ.
