Mercedes to return to LeMans in 2025 and join the WEC

I never knew why Mercedes-AMG was not contesting the WEC. Apparently they had 9 manufacturers and that was the limit.

Just a lame rule imo. I think there's more to it. There's an article somewhere about Audi's exclusion too. ACO also claimed that priority was given to those who also compete in hypercar. But yet Ford, AM, McLaren entered with just GT3s. Honestly AMG motorsport has been very busy and successful with GT3 racing in SRO, NLS and DTM.

Used to follow and attend in person WEC events but the last few years have been kind of boring, at least for me.

Did you watch Macau FIA GT World Cup race last weekend? It was quite exciting.

I'm more IMSA than WEC although I did go to Lone Star Lemans a couple months ago. Winward ran away with the championship in IMSA, it will be nice to see AMG back in WEC.

Winward did a great job. They have quite the team even for the European races. Another team to watch out is Getspeed, making their debut at Rolex24 2025.

Attended the last COTA WEC in 2017 and it went dark until 2024. I reckon most manufacturers just wanted to only race at LM. But to do that, they have to participate a bunch of other races under the WEC calendar.

If, due to an unusual astrological event, ACO decides to let LM join the IGTC calendar, I wonder if any teams will continue to compete with WEC.

I did not watch the Macau race. The single seaters have a difficult enough time negotiating those tiny streets. Can't imagine GT cars would enjoy it much.
